After many years of lurking on this board (researching and reading), we're getting ready to bite the bullet and purchase at WKORV. Trying to decide between OFC v OFD (south villas). Any thoughts or recommendations?

There's a lot of info here on these units. I suggest searching and reading a bit, though I'm sure others will chime in with additional comments.

The center units are less expensive (MF, especially) and the corner units have more space and higher MF.

I have offered my opinion on this very subject (more than once) - see post in the recent WKORV thread that discussed MFs per sqft. OFC has the lowest MF per sqft, and OFD pays a premium for the extra space and design.

Rarely discussed - there is no Friday check-in day for OF WKORV (at least for OFD, but assume true for OFC)

OFC has most advantages over OFD (therefore value) except size, layout, larger panoramic view (inside and outside), light, main lanai (perhaps) with a premium for these with the OFD. Another would be OFD having 24 villas with 12 for OFC, and this may impact availability which may affect location (assuming high floor is desired).

The biggest advatage for OFC would be MFs - up-front cost (likely) - and importantly while both studios have lanais - the OFC studio directly faces ocean whereas OFD studio is on side of front corner.

I have successfully rented the OFD studio - and this has helped offset the MFs. I would imagine the OFC studio is an easier rent.

We also love the openness of the OFD - but see advantage of owning OFC if the premium of OFD is not worth it for its' subjective upgrades.

You are buying view - and this is a large differentiation when buying WKORV OF over other WKORV/N weeks.

Robin warns (for each) is that the ocean never sleeps if you like sleeping with sliding glass door ajar (this is a common battle... lol) but ocean can be loud at 3am)

I have some hokey videos of OFD (YouTube: blujahz, WKORV)

Good luck.
Go NINERS!

I've searched and read as many threads as I have been able to find and ultimately I guess it's a subjective decision. Is there a link to the floor plans of both the OFD And OFC? Trying to figure out where the extra square footage falls...Definitely buying for the view. We will have to travel during peak season (summer) as we have two kids in school and we live in ATL.

I'm guessing we will use the 2 bdrm (as opposed to renting out studio). Given that there are only 12 units, how likely will I be able to reserve high peak weeks (ie 4th of July) even at 12 months out at 9am EST?

Many thanks in advance!

If MFs aren't an issue, I'd opt for either one. Honestly, I think you're biggest hurdle is going to be getting one of these past ROFR.

David - I think we must meet at one of our timeshares one day. We also own an OFD, (and new St. John owners). I have never done a cost basis, we just do all our vacations on opportunity basis. So, for calbear, my opinion may mean nothing. My husband can't/doesn't take a lot of time off from work, so each day is precious, and my son spent 3 1/2 years taking chemo and fighting cancer (successfully!!), so we know tomorrows may not come. We love our OFD the most of all of our timeshares (7 weeks). I love the open doors, crashing waves, space, space, space, lanai space. Everytime we go, we wish we had bought more of these weeks, and less northside weeks. (they were so much cheaper!!!).

ferndale, congrats on your OFD villa. But, most of all, congratulations on beating cancer! Woo hoo!

Moving forward on an OFC -- thanks for the thoughts! We love Maui and plan to use yearly so all good. Wish us luck on the ROFR front...

Good luck with OFC purchase. We were able to buy 2 in 2012. Both passed ROFR on first try. Strongly recommend using Advantage Vacations in Maui to handle your purchase. Syed is the owner and he is great to work with. He is a TUG member.

Robin apologizes? What - is she the maid? :D

This is what you get when you turn down the mid-week tidy. :D

apologizing for showing a photo when things are not tidy...
I had one with her sleeping on the couch with great panoramic view in background, but that got nixed

Hoping to some day buy on Maui. We just stayed at nanea and really liked it. We would want some type of ocean front which we could not afford at nanea so looking for other options. I just joined tug 2 days ago.

What do the acronyms ofd and ofc mean? Are they terms specific to wkorv

Thanks for helping a newbie.

OFC = Ocean Front Center
OFD = OF Deluxe (corners)

These are only in B2-B3 in South Resort (WKORV)
