Does anyone know about restrictions on owners of other resorts staying in WKORV during XMAS and New Years? I was told that they could not book me beyond the 23rd of December regardless of availability.

Did you really get a "Yes we have availability, and you are within the 8 months StarOption booking window, but you still can't have it" from an SVN reservations agent?

That doesn't sound right to me. Once the 8 month StarOption window opens, anything that is still available is fair game for StarOption exchangers. I'd keep calling SVO reservations until you get that answer or are at least told that there is no availability during that time.

Good Luck,

I thought weeks 51 & 52 were considered event weeks and sold as fixed weeks. Wouldn't owners have until the last minute to decide if they were using them? If they gave up their week than the week would be in SVN and could be taken with SO, but I didn't think they had to decide by the 8 month mark. Dang! Just when I thought I was getting the hang of this.

I am not sure how event weeks work - but fixed week owners must reserve at 10-12 month out (actually they give us out to 14 months at WSJ). At the 8-10 month window you can reserve outside of you scheduled week within your season (again, I do not know how this works with event weeks since there is no season).

I would not be surprised that if a fixed owner gives up their week - that it does not go into the SVN pool - SVO/SVN could make a lot more money renting it out so they could buy yellow/red/green stickies for their reservation system.

I would follow nodge's advice - and keep calling until you get the answer you want...

According to my trusty booklet, Ultra Premium and event weeks Home Resort Preference extends through the week owned. I don't know if weeks 51 & 52 are just fixed weeks or premium. I would think they are considered premium because they are excluded from the generic float time at WKORV. This might be naive on my part but I thought Starwood could only rent weeks that were unsold inventory or weeks that had been exchanged for starpoints. Any weeks exchanged for SVO options would have to go into the exchange pool (though probably wouldn't make it into II).

I too would keep calling like nodge recommended. It is not uncommon to get different answers from different reps.

We were told that you can't reserve week 51 or 52 unless you own them. That's why WKORV floating weeks only float weeks 1 - 50. If owners at the resort can't reserve those weeks, then it doesn't make since that exchangers could. Besides, if you pay big $$$ for a fixed premium week aren't you going to use it or rent it? You would be crazy to exchange it, because it wouldn't be worth any more Staroptions than a floating week.

I thought that event week owners could just show up for their week without even confirming anything. My SMV week says 1-52 float week, but 51 and 52 were sold as fixed weeks but I could be on that wait list for those two weeks.

That's how I read the FAQ's on mystarcentral too. So the real question is what happens to a fixed week/Ultra Premium week that gets exchanged for StarOptions by its owner? Is it up for grabs by other StarOption exchangers, or does SVO keep its grubby mitts on it?

If the fixed week/ultra premium week owner trades it for another week at that resort or a different SVN resort, it would be fair to make that owners week available for general StarOption trades. But, nobody ever said SVN was fair.

At a minimum, however, given the premium fixed week/Ultra Premium owners paid, I bet the number of those weeks getting traded is extremely small.

I was under the impression that the float period just pertains to the home resort preference. If you wait til 8 months and used SO can you not reserve in a different float season than you own if you have enough SO? I'll agree that it wouldn't be wise for a premium week owner to exchange through SVN and that few (VERY FEW) do it. But if they did want to go to another resort and didn't want to be bothered with renting or direct exchange wouldn't their week have to go in the SVN exchange pool. I didn't think Starwood could legally rent it if it was an SVN exchange.

Who is going to ask Starwood? :D

1) Who can reserve weeks 51 & 52 besides owners of those weeks?
2) When/how can they be reserved?
3) What happens to unreserved weeks 51 & 52?

OK - Starwood if you are reading - Inquiring minds want to know! :hi:

Yes, but weeks 51 & 52 are not a different float season - they are fixed premium weeks, so that may make a difference.
