With Garmin GPS's, what's the difference between nuvi and Streetpilot??

As in, does nuvi "always" offer a certain feature? Does Streetpilot have more bells and whistles? I've glanced at the other GPS thread, and that question (or answer) didn't seem to come up.

Thanks for the help!

I own a Streetpilot (2820). It does not have a battery backup. But I have read that other Streetpilots do, so that may not really be a point of distinction.
It has a larger POI database, multi-destination routing, etc. that was not available in the nuvi that was realeased then (nuvi 350). Things may be different now.

I think the biggest selling point of the nuvi is that it is designed for the traveller - lightweight, long battery , you can even use it in walking trips, and comes equipped with currency converter, basic transaltion in a few languages, etc.

Hope this helps

The geek squad guy I got hold of last night told me the nuvi was the newer version, the Streetpilots were being phased out. He also said the nuvi's were a little sleeker in their design.

I got a great deal on the nuvi 650 last night. It paid to do my homework and I got them to price match one of the big wholesale warehouse places! I'm happy!

Thanks for the info neash!

I have the nuvi 660, which is the same as the 650 except with bluetooth, FM transmitter and traffic information built in. I figured I would never use them, but I also figured for the price difference, I would step up to the 660.

I am amazed how much I use the bluetooth. It connects to my phone just seconds after turning on the GPS. I don't even have to do anything to the phone to connect each time. Maybe it is something with the phone that it connects, but that feature works so nice when I get calls while driving. I am not digging into my pockets looking for the phone, I answer my GPS. Traffic alert has been helpful, and since the GPS has MP3 player, I can transmit to the radio and listen to my MP3 music or an audio book on the radio. Cool features for long trips.

Don-the mp3 player and audiobook will be nice for the trips, like you said. We're taking a last minute trip to CO this weekend, so looks like DH will get to open one of his presents early :)

Size and shape is what I notice. The nuvi's are thin with a flat back, the s/p's have a conical back. (Similar to a flat panel vs a tube screen.) Different models have different features in both lines.
