Can anyone comment on this resort? The Throughbred race season at the nearby Del Mar race track overlaps part school summer vacation time period. This, combined with the fact that it is located near the beach, San Diego, and Orange County, CA (read Disneyland), would indicate that it should have a high demand. The area doesn't seem to be overbuilt, indicating a low supply (or at least not high). Thus, the demand:supply ratio should be attractive. Yet, it doesn't seem to be a popular place judging by the resale price of the units. Would this be a good place to buy a timeshare? I live in the Southern CA area about an hour-and-a-half away and could make use of the timeshare. If it is a strong trader also that would be a plus. Any perspective would be appreciated.

I've stayed at Winner's Circle twice in a two bedroom unit. The location is pretty good...about two miles from the main street of the village of Del Mar, right across the street from the racetrack, and about one mile from the beach.

The resort was remodeled in between my two stays, and the furnishings were nicely updated. It's a decent place. However, it's not a resort to get excited about. The units surround a courtyard which features a swimming pool. The feel of the place is a lot like staying in a motel. It's not a resort experience. It's clean and it's fine.

Resale prices through Advanced Commercial Corporation which has an agent on site handling owner resales reported 28 sales during 2005 with prices ranging from $2,695 to $14,495 and an average price of $7,012. As with any resort you will see "fire sale" prices offered by some who just want to get out and don't want to pay an agency commission.

I've found that units at Winners Circle trade as well as any of our other Coastal Resorts. It does look like a converted hotel, understandably, because that's what it is, but it's a very nice conversion and well maintained.

I live nearby and have been looking into this resort, partly for the day use priviledge. Any sales on Ebay seem to be studios. The prices I've seen on any 1br+ haven't been attractive enough. If you see any non-studios for a decent price then go for it.

Prices for race season weeks are outrageous. Personally I wouldn't want to stay here during race season as its a madhouse in the vicinity.

Thanks, Tuggers are very helpful!

Thanks to everyone who responded. This website can certainly generate a lot of detailed and useful information quickly! Judging from the responses, both on this site and in private, I think it might be worth my time to take a drive down to the place and poke my nose around. The weather has improved here in Southern California the last couple of days. It should be a very pleasant as well as useful experience

If you looking for a resort to take advantage of day use.
I would consider a few others
Carlsbad Inn, Carlsbad Seapointe and Grand Pacific Palisades.

Winners circle will trade great IF you own a summer week. I'd have to guess buying a fixed summer week would be pretty expensive.

Carlsbad? Verrrry interesting!

Thanks, CaliDave, for the heads ups on Carlsbad!

From my very limited internet search so far, the Grand Pacific group seems to have a good day-use program which would fit my needs quite nicely. I was wondering, though. Clearly, the summer weeks at any of the resorts (Carlsbad Inn, Carlsbad Seapointe, and Grand Pacific Palisades) would be tiger traders for the summer (weeks 26-34). But I was wondering how steeply their trading power drops off on either side of those weeks. While I do plan to actually use my time, having some trading power in case something comes up is useful. Any thoughts?

In any case, while I'm sniffing around the Winners Circle, I think I'll stop by Carlsbad and smell the flowers :) (the flowers fields should be in full bloom) - and check out a few resorts!

Carlsbad is a much easier drive from the IE, than Del Mar.

The trading power drops off quite a bit from early June. Also after labor day in Sept.
Spring break trades pretty good.

I see you're from Inland Empire, I work in Ontario.

I'll send you a Private message

At Winners Circle, I believe that trade power holds up through the end of race season.

I have heard that race season significantly affects only Winners Circle. Other resorts are too far from the track to feel much effect.

Wave Crest sells units as Surf or Turf season. however I'm not sure if the races effect trading power at all.

Doesn't race season end around Labor day?

I think it runs two or three weeks past Labor Day. Track season is very evident in resale prices.

But looking at the RCI Points grid for WC, the decline in points values occurs after Labor Day. So I suspect race season doesn't factor into RCI's trade power decisions for Winners Circle.
