I live a short 45-minute drive to Williamsburg and have never been to the Grand Illumination. I just received this email from the Williamsburg Winery about their special events in conjunction with the December 3 Grand Illumination.

I was all pumped to do this. A bus ride to and from the event (along with the other goodies) sounded like a great opportunity to finally do this. Drat, I forgot it's always on Sunday. No can do. I guess that's why I have never gone. I work on Sunday nights (which I have done for the last 29 years). I think next year I might just do some planning ahead and take leave (though it's difficult to do since this is "peak" season for my husband and I at our jobs). Tis the Season!

Have fun if you're going!

Thanks for sharing this thread. We are checking in next weekend in Colonial Williamsburg.
Sounds like fun riding to event on a bus:no parking problems , and having lunch plus touring the winery.

We've been on a couple of tours at the Winery and once stayed overnight there. All very enjoyable!

Great time to be in Williamsburg. Best wishes for a great stay.

Try and go sometime. It’s a great fireworks show and there are several music stages set up. I go almost every year.
