Hello,
I am wondering if a platinum 2 bedroom lock off at Marriott‘s Willow Ridge will trade for two weeks in March at Marriott’s NCV?
Thanks so much for your help!

Good question. Not sure the studio would pull the two bedroom, but the one bedroom is likely to do so (with the upcharge fee).

If you try it then let us know how you make out.

Hmmmm….What is the upgrade charge? And I’m sorry I wasn’t clear….I don’t own Branson now…just thinking if I should get that instead to trade into NCV instead of purchasing two Newport gold weeks.

If you confirm the exchange 60 days or more before check-in date, you must pay $99 per step up in size. 1 br to 2 br = $99; Studio to 2 br = $198

You should have no problem getting March dates at NCV with either half of Willow Ridge or Grand Chateau.
Sheraton Desert Oasis may also work for this trade, but the Marriott's would have a higher degree of confidence. With the Sheraton, you wouldn't pay to lock-off, that saves $90. And you would have two 1 br units, so that saves $99.

Trading is going to cost you a lot more in fees where buying will give you guarantees.

Trading will cost you;
  • II Membership Fee - $99
  • Lock Off Fee - $90
  • Exchange Fee Studio - $164
  • Upgrade Studio - $198
  • Exchange Fee 1BR - $164
  • Upgrade 1BR - $99

This is $815 in fees. Sure, it is cheaper than buying a second week and carrying the second week MF, but nothing is guaranteed with exchanging. Getting back to back weeks with the same checkin days may not happen, so you might lose a day here and there.

Thank you so much! This is great information…I didn’t realize there would be so many fees. Good to know.

I've successfully been trading in to Newport Coast for the past 12 years or so.

I own some Marriott Palm Desert L/O units which I reserve for Thanksgiving (TDI = 125), split and deposit in ii. I have been very successful in getting in to Newport coast with the 1 BR, and a few times was successful getting an exchange with the efficiency. My favorite time of year to go there is in mid Sept. The Newport TDI is around 115. So, sometimes the efficiency just doesn't have enough "pulling power". But in a lower TDI period (roughly Oct through February) I can typically get a match with the efficiency. Also, Marriott does bulk deposits of the shoulder season so it is often easy to pick two weeks back-to-back.

@Lakeshore If you are reserving a high TDI week (weeks 22-30) in Willow Ridge, and do a split, imho, you stand a good chance of being able to book two weeks during the shoulder season at NCV. But your success really depends on you using "best practices" - - reserve highest TDI, deposit immediately, and do daily manual searches. Putting in a request is also a good idea, but you would need to have ii note that you need two b2b weeks. BTW, I just checked ii and see that there are two b2b NCV weeks (Feb 12 and 19th) available (I used a Palm Desert efficiency to search). The current inventory on ii are remnants of a previous bulk deposit or last minute cancellations. When Marriott does the bulk deposits and they are "fresh", there is usually more inventory to choose from.

I have gotten trades into Newport Coast with my studio at Marriott's Willow Ridge. I currently have two for 5/27, actually, both of them with studios.

I also have an II platinum account, so those studios upgraded to 2 bedrooms is about $118. Platinum is worth it to me. I also get five guest certificates with platinum.
