Why Nobody Puts Cheddar on Pizza

plus the fact that it is supposed to have originated in the English village of Cheddar in Sommerset and, as we all know, pizza is Italian.
 
Ooops, too late. I made a pizza last night with cheddar cheese. :doh: Along with pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, ground beef, and rosemary.
 
Don't know how Mosca got the recipe for boiled pizza. It comes from some secret source after your 10,000th TUG post. I suspect it might come from under some bridge in the NorthWest. Maybe. :)

I made pizza once and found out I had no mozzarella in the house and substituted cheddar, or Monterrey jack or something I had around the house. Never again. Greasy nasty mess. Use mozzarella or don't make pizza.

One of our favourite pizza places here uses both. Mostly mozzarella with some cheddar. It's really good but I do agree that it's a little greasy.

When I was an Army cook, we didnt cook just anything we were provided with the daily menu and recipes to follow. But sometimes the commissary wasnt able to supply the exact ingredients that the recipe called for. So we got used to working with substitutions. and sometimes the recipes although well written for use in a real kitchen had to be adapted to field conditions, (Camp stoves fueled by gasoline) Usually no problem for a trained cook

But I still remember the the time pizza was on the menu and we drew fresh tomatoes instead of the canned sauce, blocks of cheddar instead of mozzarella, a couple of small roasts instead of ground beef instead of pepperoni...and I had to cook it on a camp stove...no oven. we had some peppers and onions too

So tomato sauce from scratch, just like my grandma would have done, shredded beef instead of ground beef, and cheddar instead of mozzarella.. turned out more like a a Philadelphia cheese steak wrap. with tomato sauce, (Ugh) but the guys ate it . A successful meal was one that kept them alive and well until the next one...so this one was a success.

you should know I was in the National Guard in 1970. I joined rather than subject myself to the draft and an almost for certain trip to Southeast Asia... Like George Bush I was a draft dodger

Really? I lived in California my entire life, up until 2 years ago. I've never seen a pizza made with cheddar cheese. Besides, Wisconsin produces more cheddar cheese than California. So shouldn't it be "Wisconsin style"? :confused:

Lately I've been seeing ads for Little Ceasar's Pretzel Crust piazza. It sounded good until they said they were using cheedar cheese.

Here's the info from their website:

Ancient family recipe from the Irish Mrs Mosca.

Old Forge pizza is often made with Monterey Jack cheese. It usually starts with a pre-baked shell, so the cheese isn't in the oven as long.
