I have grown to prefer dark chocolate over milk chocolate. So, most check out line chocolate bars are out. Even most popular candy bars with a dark version are too sweet. I like Ghiradelli dark chocolate though! What is a brand of European chocolate that is readily available that I could try?

We like Lindt 78% dark chocolate. It’s Swiss chocolate but is manufactured in the US.

Best regards.

Mike

Milka and Ritter Sport are two I like.

Where are they sold? I've never heard of either one.
I've seen them in some grocery stores, but more frequently at World Market. Looks like they are both available at Walmart.

Cliff stocks up on Ritter Sport Dark Chocolate Bars with Hazelnuts every time we go to Trader Joe's (much more expensive at CVS). He does not have to worry about hiding them from me because although I prefer milk to dark chocolate most of the time, I can't abide hazelnuts (and I've tried). Back when I could still drink wine products, nothing better than a small glass of port with a piece of dark chocolate.

I like to use Guittard's Chocolate chips in baking. K+M is a real treat. You can find K+M bars at Williams Sonoma and of course Bouchon (Thomas Keller's restaurant). We used to have them in our Whole Food but not any more...

People hate Hershey's chocolate because it isn't very good. It is not that difficult to understand.

To be fair though, this is a research project just begging to be done....I volunteer!

Then you can call me one as well. I decided years ago that if I was going to eat chocolate it would only be really good chocolate.

Didn't want you to feel left out, @Luanne!

In all seriousness, I like Hershey's ...but I've also liked other chocolates as well. What makes a chocolate 'good' is certainly subjective but as I noted earlier, I am always up for trying a new chocolate. American chocolate is excellent - and if Europeans hate it then great - that means more for me! There seems to be a unearned snootiness about non American versus American chocolate that misses the entire point - chocolate (in its many forms of existence) is an delightful form of pleasuring the taste buds. The belief that American chocolate is inferior to non American chocolate simply because it is American is narrow in its thinking.

It's a lot like beer - I enjoy some American brands, but I also enjoy some imports as well. And I am always willing to give a new beer a try.

Chocolate and beer.
It must be Friday.

See's is pretty good. Vosges is very good (I really like their bacon bar). Those might be the only two on that list that I've tried. My daughter lives in Madison, and I will have to send her to Wm. to see what she thinks.

Have you tried the Lindt Chili bar? Very very good.

Thanks for the suggestion but neither my DW nor I would be able to handle that. However, I will have to mention it my FIL’s lady friend who loves spicy food.

Best regards.

Mike

Funny how my German family loves the taste of American chocolate. Maybe whoever wrote this shouldn't attempt to speak for all Europeans.

Ritter is German! Inexpensive and good, at least from what I recall when I lived in Germany.

Personal tastes for wine are probably a lot like chocolate. I’m perfectly fine with a glass of $7 Kirkland Malbec and Cadburys Fruit and Nut bar. :)

I wonder if I’m still considered European since I was born there, but have lived most of my life in CA.

Herseys taste like puke to me and some people. I am fine with all other chocolate makers. It must be something genetic in the taste buds.

Could you elaborate on this point a bit further? I am still unclear with respect to your position on this........
