Which Wyndham Flagstaff 1-br is better? 4(4) or 4(2)?

Hi,
I've been to a couple of 2-br condos at Wyndham Flagstaff, but I've never been to a 1-br condo nor able to find posts here that discuss the differences between the two types of 1-br layout. Does anyone know?

I've never been, but based on the Unit Information chart, the 4/2 is as large or larger than any of the 4/4s, and the 4/2 is guaranteed to have a King in the master, a jetted tub and a fireplace. Some (but not all) of the 4/4s have only a Queen, no jetted tub, and no FP.

If you are only a couple, go with the 4/2. But, if you have someone sleeping on the pull-out, I might still go with the 4/4 just for the extra privacy. I can live without the jetted tub.

We have stayed at Flagstaff many times. I believe the 4/4 is not a correct nomenclature. The 2nd bed is a pull out couch in the living room for each of the 1br units. Take a look at the floor plans, and use that view to help you decide. The smaller units have a way smaller kitchen.

4/4 means guests sleeping in the living room have direct access to the (or a) bathroom without having to go through the bedroom to get to it. It doesn't mean the living room has a regular bed.

Flag Units via RCI

Flag has 2 HOA's and ALL of the 1BR units will be either an A or B unit of a lock-off. Using the RCI descriptors, a 4/2 is always going to be a B unit but a 4/4 will not necessarily mean an A unit.

The lock-off units in Tanglewood HOA are "side-by-side" units, meaning A & B have a common wall, like a duplex. Those B units will usually have a queen bed.

The L/O units in the Ridgewood HOA are "over-under" units where the B unit is below (under) the A unit. Many of those O/U B-units have been upgraded to King beds.

All 1BR Flag units have Queen sofa sleepers to meet the 4/X RCI criteria. The resort assigns the unit at check-in. Selecting a 4/4 over 4/2 via RCI is not going to guarantee an A unit over a B unit or HOA unit location.

Flag resort staff are super to work with however, especially because it is a "mountain" property and many units require stair access. Their staff is hyper-sensitive to this and are helpful regarding that criteria. If you are booking via RCI, suggest you get a 4/4 unit and then call the resort directly (1-928-522-5500) once you have an RCI confirmation number to find out what RCI actually gave them for you. If it's an A-unit in either HOA, you're golden. If it is a B unit, then you ask if it's an O/U or S/S. If you need King bed then tell them and they will do what they can.

PM me if you have more questions. We know Flag very well - owners since 1985 and practically live there during the summer months.

Not sure why you are going to Flagstaff, but it is perfectly situated for an exploration of the wonders of Northern Arizona. We were there for four nights last summer and used it as our base for day trips. I can certainly understand Bella spending much of the summer there. Our trip last summer (4 nights at Wyndham Flagstaff, one night at The View hotel at Monument Valley, 2 nights at the Maswick Lodge at the South Rim, and 5 nights at Wyndham Sedona) was the best family vacation we've ever taken -- and we've taken some good ones.

It's not the newest resort, but our 2BR villa at Flagstaff was very spacious, had a lovely balcony and a nice gas fireplace. The community center/pool area is very nice, and if we didn't have a pool at home and a busy schedule, we would have spent more time there. The resort also shares some facilities at a nearby country club. We used the gym there (very nice) and ate dinner there (very good).

There are so many day trips available from Flagstaff that I'm reluctant to recommend one over the other...but I will. Go north about 2 1/2 hours to Lower Antelope Canyon, just east of Page, AZ. It's a Navajo Tribal Park ($8 admission per person) and you take a guided tour of the canyon. We used Ken's Tours, and they were great. The picture in my avatar is one of about 100 I took in this spectacular slot canyon. We went all over Northern Arizona including Grand Canyon and five nights in Sedona, but Lower Antelope Canyon was the highlight of our trip.

Flag is also a decent base for visiting the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. We actually stayed IN the park, but Flag would work well if you get up early.

If you have time, Sedona (and the Wyndham Sedona) is certainly worth an hour drive or a stay. Spectacular red-rock country and an artsy-hippie throwback town. The landscape is amazing (don't miss the Chapel of the Holy Cross, whether or not you are religious) and the people/ambiance are like out of a time warp!

I have to agree...really like Flagstaff. Going back in December for the third trip this year to the resort. Always said no way I would own a timeshare but after my 2nd time last month I went on eBay and bought a CWA knowing I would mostly be using it at Flagstaff. Live in Phoenix, so nice quick drive up there.

First stay was in the side by side lock out 1 bedroom. Got the larger side with the jet tub.
Second stay was supposed to be in a 2 bedroom split level deluxe. When when checked in ending up get a 2 bedroom ADA room. Was going to complain since it was only a King bed and a Queen bed when it should have been a King and 2 twins but once I saw the room decided to keep it.
December is going to be a 2 bedroom A/B lockout.

Really happy with the resort. Both times ended up listening to the timeshare brainwash seminar. Both times was offered the 7 night/8 day Endless vacation certificate. Was not thrilled at first with it but my second stay ended up being with that certificate. So I paid nothing. Flagstaff Wyndham doesn't typically come up free on that so I lucked out. Trying to figure out what to do with my 2nd one. Free is only 30 days before your stay so since I am not going on my next vacation till January guess I have plenty of time to see what happens.

BellaWyn's descriptions are very accurate. Every bed (real and pull out) in the 1br at Flagstaff has direct access to a bathroom without having to walk through a bedroom. I thought the numbers were max/private. The first indicating the max that a unit would sleep and the second meaning how many were private - as in not open to the common area or living room.

RCI vs WYN Systems

Zeke... You're not crazy. RCI unit descriptions do allude to size by privacy but it's kind of a mute point with any of the Flag 1BR units. Regardless of A-side / B-side the Max OCC will still be 4 and privacy is subjective. Sleeping will happen in both sized 1BR units in the Master BR and living area.

WYN reservation system will be more distinctive. A-sides are "deluxe" units. You can also tell the difference in Tanglewood HOA vs Ridgewood HOA by the point value.

Regardless of how the 1BR unit is obtained, the resort still assigns at check-in (unless it's a fixed week unit). Unless it is a super-slammed holiday week or summer visit, resort staff will make an effort to keep their guests comfortable where possible, especially if they are contacted in advance of the visit.

Thanks to all who replied. I now have a better idea about those 1-br condos. I believe we'll be happy staying in any of the 1-br units.

Our past two RCI exchanges to the resorts were during spring break. We really enjoyed the resort and took advantage of the central location of Flagstaff to visit all the surrounding NP's as well as Sedona.

Hopefully, we can score an exchange to the resort again for the winter holidays.
