I'm planning to go to Orlando in early may with 6, 9 year old children.
Which MVC would you recommend? I've checked II and lots of choices available. Any waterslides etc?
How is Sheraton Vistana comparable with Marriott?

Never stayed at Vistana. However, Harbour Lake will likely be your best option. The resort is geared to the young family (Pirate ship pool, child geared water features, waterslide). Though I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Marriott's in Orlando. Even the new Lakeshore Reserve is a great resort for families given the access to the JW Marriott facilities.

I have to agree that most, if not all, of the Orlando properties are kid friendly. Marriott Grande Vista has a great kids MAZE activity center with indoor jungle gym and multiple pool options. Harbour Lake has a waterslide, mini-golf, and pirate themed water activity areas. Sabal Palms and Royal Palms give you access to the Marriott World Center's facilities which include a 106' long water slide as well as a kids activity center (new MAZE model I think). We will be going in April with our 6 and 8 year olds. You should have a great time wherever you end up staying. :hi:

Horizons/Harbour Lake
Grande Vista
Cypress Harbour

the rest of them aren't themed as nice for kids.

For a Marriott with a water slide in Orlando, you'll need to book either:

Marriott Harbour Lake (two pirate themed water slides and pop jet water play area)

Lakeshore Reserve resort; or

The vacation clubs located at the Marriott World Center complex - which includes Imperial Palms, Royal Palms, or Sabal Palms.

Also, don't forget about Sheraton Vistana Villages - they have a new themed slide in the new section of the resort.

I forgot about the waterslide at Lakeshore Reserve, and I even used it in November.

I really liked their pool area - peaceful for adults and fun for the kids, too. We spent the day over there in September with my brother and his family (he had a two bedroom).

I have looked at possibly staying at Cypress Harbor (which is across the street from Harbour Lake, yes?) but wasn't sure about the pool/kids activity offerings. Any one with prior experiences there?

CH is actually better for older kids (12-18) than Horizons. They have a good activity center and there are pretty many things to do on the resort grounds including tennis, basketball, pool tables, video gaming, mini golf, etc.

The units at CH are better.

I just got another getaway to Harbour Lake for spring break (mid March) for $350 for a 2br for the whole week! We stayed there in December, and the unit was so nice and clean (recently renovated). Since it was cold, and we were busy doing the Disney parks, we didn't use the pools that trip. We plan on staying at the resort a lot this coming trip, using the pools and the mini golf.

If you're going to be going mainly to Disney parks, I'd look more into the Palms (Royal Palms, Sabal Palms). They're much closer to the Disney theme parks.

Harbour Lake isn't too far, and I liked how simple it was to get in and out of - just two turns and you're on the highway.

This trip, we are only doing Seaworld and the resort, so not going to Disney at all.

I'd check II for getaways! I see some 2br units available for early May for Sabal Palms, Cypress Harbour, and Grande Vista for under $400 total for the week. For some reason Harbour Lake early May is way more, like $100 a night, don't know why? My husband thinks the getaways are the best thing about our II membership!!

We stayed at Harbour Lake last year with kids that were 3,5, & 6. They loved it so much that they wanted to skip a day at Disneyland so they could just stay and play at the resort. The resort had two separate pool areas...one that was designed specifically for younger kids with smaller slides and shallow pools. The other had a much larger slide (with height requirement), dueling water forts and deeper swimming pool.

We felt that the resort was convenient to all of the theme parks and activities. We had 6 people in the 2 bedroom unit and there was plenty of room for all of us. We are looking at going back and I'm torn between returning to Harbour Lake or trying Grande Vista. I think my little one would love the maze area.

Hope you have a great trip!

I stayed at Lakeshore Reserve last Oct and I think kids would enjoy the pool there. It was a very nice unit and the grounds were lovely. You can also use the pools at the JW Marriott & Ritz Carlton. It's a quick walk down the path to these properties.

The bold and underline above are mine, is this still true? Do they have the ability to limit access during high season?

I have never read about any restrictions on the use of the World Center facilities for Palms resort guests.

Thanks Dioxide, we have been to many of the MVCI properties in Orlando and my kids just saw an advertisement on the World Center pool and they were sold. I thought we could try it out by staying next door.

Michigan,
Sabal Palms is the closest to WC's pools. It's a very short walk from Sabal to the World Center pools, the units have been refurb'd and are quite nice.
Enjoy your trip!

I recently noted on the Marriott Vacation Club site (Sabal and Royal Palms reservations) that this fall the World Center pool will be closed for renovations. Perhaps check before you make a reservation.

From the Marriott Sabal Palms site.

Renovation Information – Sabal Palms guests and owners will not have access to main pool and food court at World Center Marriott August 1-November 30, 2012. These areas will be closed for construction.

Similar post on Royal Palms site under reservations.

Cmore and Disneymon1, thank you to both of you for the information, I really appreciate it.

I will try for Sabal Palms and we are not going until March 2013 so the pool closing shouldn't impact us.
