Where is the best region on Craigslist to host your rental ad? The site near your home or closest to the property.

I'm in SF. Would posting in HI be better? I would love to advertise all over the West Coast.

Realistically, I could rent to anyone anywhere in the country. Does anyone have a good technique for placing ads in multiple Craigslist regions?

Absolutely the region where the timeshare is located - that is where people will look.

Craigslist does not permit duplicate posts - they will be deleted.

It's a sound alike kind of thing You can get away with making multiple posts in the same or multiple market as long as the ads are worded substantially different. Another work around is multiple internet email accounts to get multiple craigslist accounts.

Also, even though some ads will be deleted, it's still often worthwhile to post them. They get viewed before they're deleted.

I don't get it.

If I lived in San Francisco and were looking for a rental in Hawaii, why would I look in the San Francisco listings?

How about if I wanted to go to Chicago, would I also look in the San Francisco listings? Maybe try the Hawaii listings? Or those in the Washington, DC area, where I live? Auburn, Alabama?

What am I missing?

I can see if you are selling a Scottsdale timeshare, you may want to post in Sedona or other AZ locations as well, not just Phoenix. I think that was what some of the posters were referring to when performing "multiple markets".

There could be consequences to violating the CL terms of use.

I may be the only one in the world who has read the whole thing but everytime I go to CL the penalties that I agree to by using CL sticks in my mind and keeps me in line.

"2. DAMAGES

In addition to any injunctive relief, you agree to pay to CL the total amount of all actual damages (including but not limited to direct, indirect, consequential and incidental damages) caused by any violation of the TOU for which you bear responsibility; EXCEPT you acknowledge that, for certain TOU violations, actual damages would be extremely difficult or impossible to quantify. Consequently, for such TOU violations, you agree to pay liquidated damages to CL as described in the following schedule:

http://www.craigslist.org/about/liquidated.damages

Furthermore you agree that the amounts of liquidated damages described therein are reasonable estimates of CL's damages for such violations, and that liquidated damages for violations of the TOU are and will be cumulative."

I've never heard of this action being taken but if and when CL decides to use this, there is going to be so much crying on the net you'll think you're in a nursery school.

But, the OP was talking about Hawaii and San Francisco. That kind of thing makes no sense to me.
