Westgate or HGVC?

Either or maybe the better answer whichever is the better deal? I don’t know enough to answer your question inteliigently

Are you wanting to just stay at Elara or do you want to use Hilton Grand Vacations Club points to go to other HGVC properties?

Both. My family and I like Elara for the room, amenities & location. We’d also like use the points to travel to different destinations in different countries. Particularly in Asia

I am pretty sure that HGVC doesn't sell greater than 2BR deeds at Elara because the budget report doesn't list that. I know that there are owners on the Westgate side who do own greater than two-bedroom deeds. I certainly wouldn't recommend getting a Westgate deed. You can book 3 and 4 BR units at Elara using HGVC points.

Particularly in Asia
HGVC is very limited in Asia.

@kidpatis You might want to check with someone on the Marriott side about a trader in Interval International. Marriott deeds get priority trading and you can see if you can book Asia through there. Westgate trades in II as well. You can check if there is any available through there.

I would not recommend purchasing a Westgate Elara deed. They do not trade in Westgate’s system and are hard to get rid of. I’m not even sure if they can trade in II. Your best bet might be to purchase HGVC resale for Elara (if there’s no Elara in II) and domestic travel and a Marriott trader for Asia, if that’s important. Above all else, research before you buy. Any questions about HGVC can be answered here and the Marriott forum is just as helpful.

Elara is indeed a nice resort and Elara HGVC deeds are great because of their MF to point ratio. But international travel (particularly in Asia) is somewhere between difficult and impossible using HGVC points.

If there is an overseas HGVC resort that interests you - e.g. the ones in Scotland, Portugal, or Japan - you would be better off buying there (assuming you want to stay a week). Craig Lodges in Scotland is particularly interesting because of their MF to point ratio (at least at current exchange rates).

Or as others suggested, you could look into Marriott and/or trading through II. Marriott has nice resorts in Bali, Thailand, and Australia though some of them are easier to get into using points than II (for that you might want to look into one of the various MVC Asia Points systems...which are less expensive than the US based Abound Points but have expiration dates).

There are tradeoffs. If you buy Craig Lodges this gives you access to HGVC points for Elara and HGVC Japan. It also gives you access via DEX program to exchange into Anantara resort weeks in SE Asia and New Zealand. This will also give you access to Interval International (II) if you pay the annual fee for this exchange program but you will have lower priority than owning a Marriott week to trade in II which gets first access to available trades.

This is a great HGVC option. I didn’t know that Anantara was in Dex. @kidpatis I would explore this option as well as Marriott.

Where could I find a Craig’s lodge for sale? Recommendations please and thanks
Any things I should particularly look for? Thank you

thank you very much
May I ask do you know what maintenance fees are?

So if I could find an HGVC resale deed for Elara, 2BR, could I use the points to access properties in the Philippines? I remember during an HGVC TS presentation that the points could be used via RCI?

I just casually looked on the HGVC/RCI portal, and there are locations in the Philippines (Palawan, olongapo, Pasig city), but the exchanges I saw were a minimum of 7 night stay at a pretty steep point cost (34,000 ish points). The “extra vacation” options seemed more reasonable, $250-500 for a week, though with limited availability. Might be a possibility if you are flexible about when you can go.

Everyone here has been so amazing and helpful

Is there a broker on tugbbs that could help me locate a 2BR Elara Platinum. I’m a little overwhelmed searching Google for one.

Lots...
May see their postings at TUG or redweek or websites for Judi Kozlowski or Diane Nadeau & others, recommended in many posts.
Should likely be 4k + closing fee from broker, for std, 11,200, deed for Elara; maybe cheaper for Blvd or Paradise or Flamingo. Pls review numerous posts here at TUG re this.
Best in your journey!
