We're travelling to Cocoa Beach 10/21 and have three units reserved at The Resort on Cocoa Beach. Love this place and have been there twice. We'll have friends along and want to know of some places to eat besides the Florida Seafood Restaurant. Love that spot and the sweet little rock shrimp they serve (not to mention the balloon man!). But we haven't ventured far in the area and were wondering what other places people have been to and liked. We eat breakfast and lunch in the condo and go out every night for dinner. We're hoping that the shuttle won't blast off tomorrow and will be delayed until October for the next launch. That would really be something to see, or at least we hope so and think we'll have a great spot to watch it from.

Space Coast Laurie lives in the area. Maybe she will see this.

I am interested in the responses for food near the Resort in Cocoa Beach. We will be there the week before. We also enjoy this resort, there is so much to do at this resort.

We have enjoyed Azteca II on site. Thought Mexican food there was very good and so convenient.

We have enjoyed Dixie Crossing for the rock shrimp. Not ic Cocoa Beach but Titusville. A bit of a drive but we hit Dixie Crossing, after a day at Kennedy Space Center. I will need to check out the Florida Seafood.

Grills @ Cape Canaveral

My wife's aunt and uncle live at Cape Canaveral, right next to the Ron Jon's timeshare place. At the terminal area for the ships taking off there is a wonderful restaurant called "GRILLS" - just don't ask for anything fried!! It is super good, and we go there everytime we are down!! Definitely worth a drive up, and you might even see a ship leave the docks!!

We live in the area. Our two favorite Cocoa Beach restaurants are The Mango Tree http://www.themangotreerestaurant.com and Yen Yen (chinese with a twist)...both in the area. As other posters mentioned, Grills in Cape Canaveral is close and has terrific seafood (and views of the cruise ships) as well as Dixie Crossroads in Titusville (not close but is worth the trip).

Outside of the Cocoa Beach area (and not far away) is Cocoa Village (A1A to SR 520, turn west on 520 and travel over both rivers and you will see Cocoa Village on your left against the west side of the Indian River). It's only about 20 mins away and you will find a very quaint village to stroll around, lots of boutiques and shops, and several top notch eateries (all price ranges). You will also have Cocoa Riverfront park next to the village where you can walk around and maybe see a dolphin or two as well as several native birds.

Head south on A1A towards Indialantic (about 20 - 25 mins away) and you will find (on 5th Ave/US192) some terrific eateries such as Island's Fish Grill (upscale seafood) and City Tropics Bistro (food is good, atmosphere is awesome) right by Islands Fish Grill.

Hit these websites for some addtl info: http://www.brevardtoday.com/reviews.asp

Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip to Cocoa Beach!

Email me at J9sling@aol.com if you have any other questions about the Spacecoast area.

Also going to Cocoa Beach - Restaurant.com?

I am glad to see this thread. We will be at Ron Jon mid-October and I have been looking into where to eat.

I cannot provide any advice but had been considering using Restaurant.com certificates. The two closest restaurants offered are Barrier Jacks and Coconuts on the Beach, both in Cocoa Beach.

Has anyone been to either, and are they worth a try?

Sorry Annette/Terry but I have never heard of Barrier Jacks. Coconuts on the beach is not really known for their food but more as a nightspot. We ate there once... Food is not generally expensive around here. There's a good variety of restaurants in all price ranges. Even the "expensive" ones are really not that pricey. While you are at Ron Jon you will be right by Grills at the Port as well as Rustys and Fishlips (I think). Grills is very good seafood. Rusty's is decent food and a fun, very casual atmosphere. Never been to Fishlips. Ron Jon's restaurant is very good as well...service is somewhat slow but food is tasty.

Jenny,
What is the name of the restaurant next to the food co-op? It's N. cocoa beach.A1A Maybe 2 miles (or less) north of Ron Jons surf shop. (On the left) Always eat there when we are up in CB. Used to eat on the outdoor deck at the Sunset Grill? just over the bridge on the right (520)

Again, we haven't been to the area yet, but I have been researching. I've read Trip Advisor reviews for Ron Jon's Resort, where we will be staying, and lots of people have mentioned Florida Seafood Bar and Grill. We plan on trying it.

Jim,

Not sure what it is. We don't venture up that way too often and there are SO many places. I will ask around over the next few days to see if any of my friends know. We've eaten at the Sunset Grill...good place, kinda expensive but nice atmosphere on the Banana River.

I'll investigate!

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the restaurant info Jenny. I wanted to find the CB village last time we were in the area but couldn't. Will definitely try to get there this time for some shopping as well as dining. We have been to Coconuts and would agree it's more of a night spot. Grills is fantastic and we dined there twice the last time we were there. Also stopped in at Fishlips which was OK for food but more of a rowdy bar atmosphere than restaurant or at least that was our impression the night we were there. We'll check out the Mangotree and see what it's like. Hubby doesn't care for asian food but the rest of our party may want to try out that other location. Where do you get the restaurant discount books? Online or somewhere locally?

If you are talking about the Entertainment Book I am sure my daughter can sell you one for $25 plus shipping (school fundraiser)!!!:D There are multiple coupons in the book for restaurants and activities. I have also seen some of the tourist coupon books (free) available at hotels and various restaurants. You should have no problem finding those in Cocoa Beach.

Thanks! I plan to go up in Nov. for a surfing trip.

I live in Indialantic. Another good restaurant is "Pineda Crossing." You would need to call first, I cannot re:hi: member which nights they are open (321-259-7760). They can also tell you menu specials.
Coming from Cocoa Beach, head south on A1A. Just past Patrick AFB, turn right on Pineda causeway. Restaurant is on hwy 1 near end of causeway (and in good weather, the causeway drive over merritt island is very nice, we often see dolphins playing).

Here is a link to the restaurants: http://www.cocoavillage.com/directory/restaurants_eateries/

I have eaten in Murdock's and the Black Tulip. The Black Tulip is "Fine Dining" and Murdock's is a bar/restaurant very noisy on a Friday or Saturday night but very good food.

In Cocoa Village I have only eaten at the Black Tulip, Cafe Margaux and Bankers Bar and Grill. I love the atmosphere at Cafe Margaux (somewhat upscale but not as much as Black Tulip) because they have some beautiful outdoor seating in their courtyard. If it is chilly they have gas heaters outside. The food is as wonderful as the atmosphere!

Bankers Bar and Grill is an old bank building that has been restored to a bar/restaurant with live entertainment. The food was good and the music was nice. It made for an interesting dining experience...very casual. I'm not sure if it is still in business. We called a few weeks ago and got a "disconnected" message. But, if you stroll around there you may want to check it out.

Cocoa Village is worth the short trip. It's the nicest "village" type area in Brevard county. Downtown Melbourne is second in my book...but they have some great restaurants and shops too!!!

Don't forget to walk around the river at Cocoa Riverfront Park and look for some dolphin!

Enjoy!

Jennie
