Three of my kids and I are at Samoset Resort this week. I have to head back to Bath tomorrow, because we have school Thursday and Friday. (Sigh!) But will come back up Friday after school for one last night. I've got the balcony door open so I can hear the ocean while I finish grading papers and prep some lessons.

Where are you celebrating New Year's Eve? Any resolutions to share? Mine just involves getting to Canada at some point in 2025. Likely not to stay for the week, but I am at least going to step a toe across the border to say that I've done it. :) Figure it shouldn't be hard to do from Smuggs in July. And I am going to become comfortable with my slow cooker. Kids bought me one for Christmas. I've never owned one! We made minestrone in it this week...SO GOOD. Came in handy in the partial kitchen setup that we have here.

Happy New Year to all!

My first calendar change in my mountain home, sitting tight tonight. Winds have picked up to Howling so I’m glad I’m not out in it. Bought a new plant today plus other pots for plants that need more legroom so I‘ll be playing in the dirt indoors in a bit and probably tomorrow keep moving all my potted friends around to decide who goes where. The big deal is attempting to propagate the Venus Flytrap.

Resolutions? A lifelong problem for me is difficulty organizing. Seems to be a thing others have naturally, I don’t know, I just know it’s been a problem Forever and I don’t want to live overwhelmed any longer. So, tomorrow the pantry gets emptied and (hopefully) arranged smarter, kitchen cabinets will get cleared, cleaned, and same hope for smarter org. Next is bathroom storage, then my closet, then, the big deal,The Craft Room.

My next door neighbor used to be an interior designer so will likely ask her to come tell me how I can do better after I finish. The kitchen has great view so I want to maximize that but not be stupid. Honestly, it will take having another human in here to get it right so that when I do invite people over, it’s easy to move around, converse, serve refreshments, etc., with no one uncomfortable, having to move their legs or lean, etc.

the biggie for me is to get back sewing. I have waaaaay too much fabric, which is good because I feel like I’ll need to relearn what I knew so cheap old stuff good for that. I haven’t set specific goals quite yet, but first up is likely using some of the massive denim roll to replace couch cushions (already have the foam squares or whatever you call em). Mom had a business and I have most all of the fabric, etc., and a lot of pillow inserts, so will likely use the smaller yardage of upholstery fabric to put nice pillows on the denim couch. If I have specific fabrics picked out, I might get fancy and add piping to the denim cushions that matches the pillows. That could look odd, but I’m odd, so…

2025 will be a lot of organizing, a lot of making (and hopefully selling), a lot of growing food and flowers. I kind of feel like I need to get 2025 right so following years are easier, with physical space arranged to get things done, and then actually getting things done.

By the way, beef stew in a crockpot is something I do quite often. congrats on that slowcooker! I need to master the countertop combo oven that includes air fryer. Bought bag of onions today, planning onion rings very soon!

New Year’s Eve has never been a favorite, so with Cliff in bed I have a good reason to skip the fancy dinner, casino and dancing the old folks home puts on. My friend down the hall who tends to the cats when I’m doing things like 4am ambulance runs, brought in all the birthday cards folks were leaving me yesterday and she bought me a mini Nothing Bundt Cake and left it in my fridge. For the umpteenth time the idea is to lose some weight next year, so sweets will be drastically cut back. That means if Cliff doesn’t get out of bed to have dinner, there will be no cake leftover for him tomorrow!

Home with husband who is recouping from back surgery! Watching the New Years Eve Nashville and Dick Clark’s countdown. Just heard 75 percent of the people stay up to watch the ball drop! I’m up to watch the ball drop, husband never is😊(unless we have a party). How about you?

I’m not likely to make it to midnight. Got a lot done today and I’m tired! Upside, I made good use of the warm sunny weather.

We live in California. Fortunately Times Square is in NY. So we'll be at home watching the ball drop in NY because we'd never make it to midnight in California. The 3 hour time difference really helps.

My sweetheart is mindful of her calories, so I picked up some Bundaberg Diet Ginger Beer so we can toast in the new year in low calorie style. (You may be familiar with the Bundaberg brand if you've ever traveled down under.)

Her family has this odd tradition, so I go along. I'm curious if others do this. We raid my piggy bank for coins. Then at midnight we shake the coins in our hands. It's supposed to bring you money in the new year.

Hubby just grilled a delicious steak dinner amidst the sparkling lights in uptown Dallas. The guys are watching football now. I’m going to bake some cookies, then he said we would pop open some Moet for the NYC countdown (even though we are in Dallas), toast and drink the bubbly, then walk to see the Dallas fireworks at midnight. Not sure we will still be awake after the bubbly, but we will see! 😘 And we watched the London fireworks earlier in case we are too tired for ours! Lol! Sometimes we make it to midnight, sometimes not! It seems it’s much easier to stay up when we have a party, but no party this year…at least not a big party…just us and the kids that are still at home. Hope you all have a great night, no matter how you celebrate!

We will be at home in our condo. I took a nap after golf so I should be good. Kim made her famous Oxtail Stew that we will enjoy shortly and then wait for New Year. Fireworks aren't too bad here on Molokai so we'll be able to turn in when ever we're ready.🤙🏻

Here in Texas it’s 11:45 PM, and the fireworks around us have been popping for hours. Our dogs went to bed at ten, and the cat is curled up on my lap. We’re watching old Chopped reruns and waiting for everything to break loose at midnight, then we’re going to bed, hoping it’ll quiet down so we can sleep!

We stayed at home and had appetizers while watching Nashville Big Bash New Year's Eve. But then I did something dumb and slipped off the step stool in the pantry while I was cleaning up the kitchen. (Slippery slippers, not drinking.) I hit my back and head on the step stool and fell all the way to the floor. I have a bruise and a goose egg, but fortunately, nothing more serious. I learned my lesson about wearing the slippery slippers!

1/1/25 update: Besides being a little stiff today, I am 100% fine, and I'm wearing stable tennis shoes - not slippy slippers! I'm also staying off the step stool.

I finished a jigsaw puzzle, drank a small glass of wine left over from Christmas, and went to bed. When I woke up, it was 2025!

We were at a friends house last night but did the countdown at 9pm and celebrated with the NYC folks. We have other friends coming over for brunch this morning, then family from Chicago flying in this afternoon for a 3 day visit. Our house usually pretty quiet, so it feels like a lot of excitement lol.

As far as a New Years resolution, I am going to add on to last years which was to stop reading the comments on the news stories that I read. Too much drama. I am not usually disciplined enough to do this, but I did it. At first it was hard because I loved reading the comments section, and the more drama the better, but it kept me sitting and reading instead of getting things done. It had to go. This year I am adding the Instagram comments as well. So TUG will be my only fun place on the internet. :)

Wait! You’ve never owned a slow cooker? Holy cow! I can’t live without mine which I’ve been using them since 1977 when I got married!

As for Canada- you MUST go to Quebec City! We went one year before our Smuggs vacation and loved it! It’s only a few hours to or from Smuggs.

New Years plans were in my pjs chillin’. lol! We had 5 holiday parties in December and that was was more than enough!

We watched a blood and guts movie followed by our nightly ritual of binging on Northern Exposure episodes. No alcohol last night. Just not in the mood. Went to bed a little after 11. Fireworks went off and was hard to get back to sleep.

Wish I could rent in Samoset. Really liked it there years ago.

I don’t do resolutions. Retired now I love not putting pressure on myself to accomplish anything. lol!

Happy New Year!

We went down to my cousins to see his young kids and have a small belated christmas present giving and then hung out with him, his wife and his sister playing (and getting frustrated with) Phase 10 I think the card game was called. Drove back to his sisters apt as she had 2 beds, one for me and one for my sister (my BIL decided to skip on this trip) where my sister convinced my cousin to turn up the heat so... IDK I didn't sleep more than an hour or two it seemed like. I got her back though, she had to drive back today while I apparently snored the whole trip :p

I was catching on my previous NY resolution deleting hundreds of pics from iCloud. Partial success was followed by traditional meal of lobster tail and open face mini sandwiches. Finished with bubbly toast at 12:00 Mountain time. Happy and healthy 2025 to all!
