When does Marriott release “hotel” inventory for timeshare use?

Hi folks. We have an island view week reserved at the Waikoloa Beach Club reserved using Abound points starting this July 3rd. I would like to change it to ocean view. Marriott.com shows “hotel” ocean view available for that same week, so I expect it will become available at some point if they don’t sell out first. Does anyone know when “hotel”inventory is released?

If this is a FAQ and I missed it, I apologize in advance.

I don't think the cash inventory will ever make it to the Abound inventory, excluding crazy times like Covid.

ETA: I read this is Waiohai not Waikoloa so I'll retract my statement about view. Don't forget you can waitlist but you'd need the points extra and run a risk of holding account points if under 60 days.

Waikoloa has approximately 2 separate sections:
1. The Kamehameha wing is a hotel - it won't make it to MVC inventory as I understand it.
2. The Ka'ahumanu wing are timeshares, which occasionally show as rentals for $$$.

We have enough points for the ocean view. How do we do the waitlist with Abound? We are Westin Ka’anapali owners and this will be our first Abound usage.

Call the Vistana- Marriott cross trained agents 800-239-2197 and make the waitlist request if you are using Club Points. Those points will be locked up until the waitlist is fulfilled or canceled.

You have to have enough EXTRA points to reserve a separate reservation to wait list. As noted, it will tie up the points. If you match and it's outside the 60 day window, you can switch up any points if needed to make sure you save the points that are most valuable if needed.

I think you are confusing the fact that the hotel side is Marriott Inc and the timeshare side is MVC Trust. This is a mixed use project. The hotel inventory never shows up on the timeshare side as available to book with Abound Club Points; however, it is possible that the timeshare side units may show up on the BonVoy website if there is excess inventory that is being rented for cash.

Thanks, everyone. Now that I understand more about how things are at the Waikoloa Ocean Club, and with MVC in general, I have spoken with Marriott/Vistana multi-brand Owner Services line and gotten on the waitlist for an ocean view unit. The help is much appreciated.

Just make sure to mark your calendar and cancel the waitlist no later than 61 days prior to the reservation in order to avoid holding points for an unfulfilled request.

So...while the advice is accurate, every time I make a waitlist request (and it's been well more than a dozen times at this point) the CSR asks me if I would like it to expire at 61 days. So if the OP said yes, they don't have to worry about that. The only thing they have to worry about is if their Abound Points expire sometime before Dec 31st (which I don't think can happen since I'm guessing they were elected from Vistana) they need to keep track of their banking deadline vs getting them back on May 31st.

From our "What it's worth" department, I was just at Waikoloa and the 'average' OV isn't that much better than the 'average' IV. In particular, the IVs on floors 3, 4, 5,and 6 are perfectly fine. What OV *does* get you is the guarantee that you won't have a 1st floor villa. So I wouldn't sweat it if the waitlist doesn't come through.

I agree that most CS reps ask that question, such that the request automatically expires at day 61, however, if the OP doesn't understand the nuances, then it is a trap for the unwary.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had the CSR set the waitlist to auto-cancel at -61 days, vis:

“WAITLIST CRITERIA
If my waitlist is not fulfilled before 61 days to arrival, please cancel my waitlist request and return my points.

Waitlist will return points on: 03 May 2024.”
