I have a cash RCI Platinum account and a free Worldmark RCI account. When I look at the cash options on my Platinum account I see 96 different stays for SOK going out 16 months. When I look at the Worldmark side I see 2 options going out 60 days. When I look at RCI through HGVC I see options going out 9 months. A little frustrating as they want $3K for the cash option. Any thoughts on this?

I also see a cash option for a resort that is $879 for three nights. Booking direct the rack rate is only $589. Thanks RCI/Wyndham.

You should look at the Bonnet Creek inventory in Extra Vacations. This is Wyndham's flagship resort in Orlando. After stopping mega renters, there is a glut of weeks that they need to rent. So I guess renters will still be in the units, but Wyndham gets all of the money.

There is something shady about all of it.

SOK probably put inventory into RCI to rent. It probably isn't exchange inventory.

I never thought about resorts like SOK depositing their inventory.

Yes, these older resorts are still trying to sell. SOK has a real estate company called Kainoa Properties, and they are trying to do two things: 1)sell to new buyers at crazy prices compared to ebay (where the weeks are free)
2)convert all current owners at every Soleil-managed property on Maui to RCI Points. It's a really bad deal. I would never do it, but I have met people in the hot tub who did, and they say they are happy, but they don't know what I know about RCI points and how much cheaper it is to get them, and with much less in MF's per point.

We own a deeded week at SOK. Every year they try to talk us into converting our week to points (for a price) but I don't see any advantage for us. We use our week every year, and have always been able to choose my desired dates. Am I missing something about points vs weeks? I am new to this forum and am reading alot of posts referencing points but I'm not sure why I should buy into the points system.

No, you shouldn't convert to points. For very little investment, you can get a different timeshare already in RCI Points with very low MF's and use it to stay at Sands of Kahana a second week. Right at 10 months, I can book 7 nights in a 2 bedroom, even during whale season. I book at midnight 10 months out and usually see inventory. I usually book airfare for a Monday or Tuesday before our annual three weeks at Hono Koa and add nights to our stay to get SOK. We always get a partial ocean view. Not bad for an exchange.

Your goal would be to get a timeshare with MF's that are about 1 cent per point. SOK would be way over that for a conversion.

Grandview in Las Vegas is practically free on ebay and will get you a lot of points for less than 1 cent MF per point.

Kainoa Properties is basically a scam operation with their conversions to points.

Good information, thank you!

You are so welcome. I would check ebay for listings, if you want to try RCI Points. But if you don't want more vacation, no need to buy anything. If you want a second week at SOK, you can also buy it on ebay.

Are there any "in the wild" resale properties with good MFs that can be used as RCI Points?

Grandview as @rickandcindy23 mentioned is a near commodity and offers excellent trading value (especially the 122k point weeks if you plan to own long). There are others that offer good value (Massanutten and the Colonies), but they are rare to see in the wild. There have been a lot of past TUG discussion on this if you will use the search. The Vacation Village sub group Is also a good place to have these discussions.

Are RCI Weeks and RCI Points (7 nights) equal from a standpoint of priority? For those WM owners, wouldn't it make sense to pick up 10,000 OTU Credits that are close to expiration for about $.07 and deposit them in Spacebank with RCI? That would give me a RCI Week for $700. Of course I still love the flexibility of Points but don't really want to buy another TS.

In comparing my Worldmark RCI account to my HGVC RCI account, It looks like with WM, I am limited to F/S/S check-in but with HGVC I can check-in any day but Wednesday. It also looks like for Grandview Red/Prime 2BR, 10,000WM is equal to 7680 HGVC and 122,000 RCI Points.

RCI Weeks and RCI Points, completely different inventory. If you want to get Sands of Kahana or Kahana Beach at 10 months out (one bedrooms are all oceanfront), you need to have RCI Points.

I would also recommend buying a Marriott or Sheraton and trading into Westin/ Marriott on Maui and settle for the island view.

I didn’t realize that. Any info on the percentage of each in RCI?
Generally (there are exceptions), everything in RCI Weeks is available in RCI Points. RCI Points inventory that is points only (inventory that can be booked in various periods of time using points -- generally not fixed, 7-day periods) is not available in RCI weeks.

There are several odds and ends exceptions to the info above ... but that is the gist of it. The overwhelming majority of the inventory (overall in the system, not necessarily true at the resort level) is "weeks" and available in both systems.

How are you getting RCI points cheap? Do you mean by buying a timeshare in RCIs network that has low MFs? Or do you mean you can buy straight RCI points by resale? We are in HICV, but in something they bought so we have no access to trade in HICV. I have to exchange in II all the time and think I would like to buy something cheap to get access to RCIs inventory too. Something with really low MF but trading power.
If I bought a legacy week in Desert Springs, would the MFs be cheaper than buying a week in Maui, but I can still easily trade into Maui?

I wonder how this works too.

I'm going to take a shot at the original question...Fees, along with a lack of interest in their subscribers!
