What's the likelihood of getting a trade when you are < 60 days from check in?

Hi - I wanted to ask a general question to see what is the likelihood that I will get a trade through II when my check in date is less than 60 days away? Do trades still come through after the 60 day mark? I put in my trade request last year and am trying to trade to France for the last weekend in June. I already booked another hotel as a back up which is refundable. However I am feeling quite frustrated that I paid so much for maintenance fees this year and will have to pay out of pocket for my hotel on this trip instead of getting a trade. This will make my decision to ask Marriott if I can deed this timeshare back to them. I can't spend $2K for maintenance fees and still have to pay out of pocket for a hotel.

You already posted this once, but I think it's a valid question whether a trade will come through last-minute. It's very possible to get a trade last-minute. People do cancel trips and it's not unusual to get even the most difficult trades within 60 days. It's hit or miss, generally speaking. I see some amazing stays, like the 5/30 I just posted under sightings for a 3 bedroom in Cape Cod at our favorite resort. Great trade, anyone can grab it (I saw it with my cheapest trader), and so no one is going to say this trade is impossible.

If I wanted the Marriott in Paris by Disneyland, I would watch it like a hawk, constantly checking II, especially at 5 AM Eastern Time, when II is wild with opportunities for great trades for last-minute travelers.

Good luck to you!

Hi!
For 5 AM Eastern time - when does the II matching algorithm/program happen - is that after 5 AM? I currently have a pending request that is supposed to search for matches for me. Is it possible to find the trade at 5 AM that the automated matching process won't find at that time? I do check several times per day and I see weeks pop up. Like right now there are two weeks available in November of this year. But so far I have not seen anything pop up for June/July timeframe.

You are the second person to mention sightings - where do I find that on TUG?

Thanks for your reply!

The general answer is yes it’s possible, but beyond that there really is just no way to know.
You did the right thing with the back up reservation!

It’s luck that someone cancels or an extra available unit gets deposited.
And your perseverance in searching to find it before someone else does.
Cancelations/ retrades can show up anytime so check as often as possible- I’ve seen units pop up at 4 PM.
Is your request still pending at less than 60 days?

Sightings/distressed is at the bottom of the page that lists the various timeshare system / location forums.
You need to be logged in to see it.

PS- since you are frustrated that this exchange hasn’t come through maybe give us more details on exactly what you did- what resort, week #/TDI, and unit size did you use? What date did you place the request? I’m especially curious to know in you requested 12 months+ in advance.

Prime Summer is a very very difficult trade for the France property. Lots of local owners that use their weeks during school holiday time in France. I would definitely keep checking as you never know what kind of last minute excahnge will pop and the ongoing search certainly does miss things sometimes that you may snag by manually searching.

I have an ongoing pending request set up and I placed the request in December I believe it was so only 6 months in advance which likely is part of the issue here. However I have say that this is normal for me as I usually determine my next vacation destination in December for the following year and that is when I put in my requests in the past and I have always gotten a trade. I guess I didn't realize that France would be so difficult to trade to. I have traded to many places which were highly desirable before like Hawaii, Switzerland, Austria, and have never encountered a situation where no trade came through. For my Harbour Lake unit it is the studio side that I am trading with permission to pay the extra fee to upgrade to a larger unit. I am trading Marriott to Marriott which II told me gives me preference over the non-Marriott trades. I will try to remain hopeful and either way I am going to France - whether I stay at a Marriott timeshare or my hotel back up remains the open question.

Do you happen to know when the school holiday starts in France? My requested check in date was for the last weekend in June.

As others have mentioned sometimes an OGS don't grab an available unit right away (the OGS is probably batch run only at specific times during the day) and the unit will appear in manual search results. So that others can also be manually searching for/along with you, post a sightings request under the https://tugbbs.com/forums/threads/sightings-requests-2025.370318/

European school holidays start from 3rd week in June in some countries and more through to mid July. If you requested in Dec, you missed the initial release to II 12 months ahead.
The other European locations you mention don't have MVC or elite resorts, so you will have had a better chance of getting those.
See if you can use the week for something else.

Exchanging a studio Harbor Lake for a summer Marriott's Village d'Ile de France which are all 2 or 3 BR's was probably a bad idea. In March through May it might have worked but not summer.

Yes you have Marriott priority but anyone using a 1BR or larger probably bumped you whenever deposits were made. A studio might not even have enough trading power outside of 60 days. It may have been that there was one or more deposits and even with no active requests in, you may not have matched and it could have gone to open availability for those with enough trading power.

You didn't spend $2000 on the studio portion of you lock off. I always thought of a studio portion of an Orlando (or Branson) or off season higher demand locations to be better than a bonus week but not something to rely on an exchange into a 2 bedroom prime time location anywhere other than Orlando, Branson, or Williamsburg. You probably wouldn't need to use the full 2 BR unit but a 1 BR would have significantly increased your chances with your ongoing request, IMO.

Thank you - I posted on sightings to add MVF for June 28/29, 2025 check in date. I am not sure how to add this myself or if I am allowed to?

I exchanged my full 2Br Harbour Lake for 2Br Paris.
Using a studio for a difficult trade like summer in Europe is a bold move- even with MVC priority.
What size units did you request?

I’ve traded by studio many times but usually shoulder season or Orlando.

I really don’t think you should be miffed or too disappointed if this doesn’t come through. Live and learn and keep trying and vacationing. Enjoy Paris!

Of note Marriott France has studios which may have been you better option for summer.
Yes I also requested for a studio to studio exchange but said I am okay to pay for the upgraded room if one comes available. At this point I will take anything if they offer it.

Thank you I am looking forward to my first time visit to Paris! I will be happy even if I can get a studio to studio trade through II for MVC France. However I do have a back up hotel which is right in the city so actually more convenient for sight seeing. But still I would prefer the MVC resort since it will be the much cheaper priced option. Fingers crossed!!

I am surprised that it did not match. It may be that it was not requested at 12 months. I requested a May 2026 week with my 1 bedroom MGC back in April. Let’s see what happens. I booked it with points just in case I don’t get the exchange. That’s another option if you have points.

We spent a week at the MVC and then 3 nights in a hotel in Paris.
We didn’t think we would travel to Paris every day from MVC but the weather was beastly hot (100) in June and the air conditioned train ride was so easy that we went every day.
Be sure you buy your museum/attraction tickets in advance.
Enjoy.

Paris Travel Demand is the greatest during the peak summer months.
You might get lucky with a last minute match in June. Here's what was sighted last minute in 2024 & 2023.

The availability dates in 2024 would have worked for us for this year. I will keep fingers crossed that something comes up before we depart!

Not what you are looking for I know, but there are many units MVC Paris sitting in inventory on II right now from Oct 4- the end of the year. Many 2 br, a few 3 br. All visible with my Harbour Lakes week.

Hi All! I wanted to update everyone who had replied to me that today was my lucky day! I have been checking Interval's website multiple times a day every single day for the past month or more and today finally my commitment to checking paid off!!! I was able to trade my studio from Marriott's Harbour Lake to a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom at Marriott's Village d'lle de France with a check in date of June 29th! We are arriving on June 30th so I wasn't concerned about losing the first day since our plane arrives on the 30th in Paris at 8:15 AM Paris time. So this way we can leave the airport and go immediately to our room after we check in instead of waiting until 4 pm check in time. I am beyond thrilled and so super excited! This goes to show that even with a pending request that is active you can find a trade on your own. I always relied on the pending request to do the work for me but in this case it just was not happening. So I diligently checked many times per day and night - even the middle of the night! I had a back up plan already in place but now I can cancel my back up reservations and look forward to enjoying this amazing resort in France! Thank you again to everyone who replied to my post. Since I'm heading to a resort near Disneyland Paris I have just one thing to say.... "Dreams do come true!" :)

Awesome trade! Enjoy France, we really loved our stay at this property back in the Fall. Make sure you have some of the fresh croissants from the Marketplace on site! YUM!!
