Waiohai seems to be a bit of a smaller resort than we've gone to through Marriott. Can anyone recommend a room/building to request that has a decent ocean view?

Waiohai OV rooms are uniquely challenged because a bunch of them became 'parking lot view' after the resort was built (and the villa view designation assigned). What view you will be given will definitely depend on how you booked - Abound Points vs cash vs Interval vs (shudder) encore package.

Hales 1, and 8 are best. It can't hurt to ask...but unless you are a multi week owner staying on a consecutive or concurrent it's unlikely. 2 and 7 are next best...and depending on where you are in the pecking order you might have a chance.

Failing those, I actually recommend Hale 4 for non-owners because while it is the farthest from the ocean, the OV villas overlook beautiful gardens with a peek at the ocean in the distance. Hales 5 and 6 have the 'parking lot view' OV villas I mentioned earlier.

We are booked on Abound points. Is that bad or good for requesting?

Next best to being an owner using their week. Depending on when you are going and your MVC status you should have a reasonable chance at Hales 2 or 7. And if not (and you ask for it), the top floor of Hale 4.

Thank you!

Even owners using their weeks struggle with views there as good as the resort is otherwise. That's why many feel that just reserving the IV is probably better because of the points savings.

This is indeed my usual advice for those booking with Abound Points. The downside is that if you happen to visit when Waiohai is filled with owner occupiers you run the risk of getting the dread Hale 4 parking lot view.

I wouldn't recommend requesting an ocean view room. Just request an island view room and you will probably get one that faces the pool/grill area. Those views are perfect fine.

We were just there...IV booking using Abound points. We were in room 1209 (2nd floor) in Hale 1 facing the pool with a peekaboo glimpse of the ocean.

We didn't call and request anything in advance, but we did have a Thurs-Tues 5-day reservation so we weren't directly competing for weeks owners. Thrilled with our room placement.
