What time does Southwest Airlines release future Schedule dates?

Southwest extends booking calendar into early 2023

Richard

If anyone knows an estimate to what time the schedule opens up on June 16 please let me know.
Southwest does not announce the time of the window opening -- only the date. Historically, the range is somewhere between 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. ET, but YMMV. I believe you can subscribe to some twitter feeds that will alert you to window opening on the scheduled day.

Thanks Ryan it opened between 5am and 7:15 am CST really didn’t matter much as airfare was totally ridiculous for Cabo at Thanksgiving.

Interesting that you say that because I saw the same thing for Hawaii (although I was looking a few weeks ago). I can't remember the details but early Nov was roughly $400pp, Thanksgiving week was over $1200 RT. I was choosing between two available weeks through SFX and it was easy to choose the earlier week!

I think demand planning knows that Thanksgiving will be popular with pent up travel demand -- and they can always adjust prices later if purchases don't match their demand forecast. I'd suggest using Google Flights to track airfares -- even if you can't track Southwest price specifically due to SWA's embargo on fare search engine access. If other airlines have sales, generally SWA will follow or vice versa.

But that would also mean they aren't getting bites at $1200 RT. With fewer flights to go around, the airlines might get enough folks to pay that price... hope you find something more reasonable down the line. Me thinks holiday travel will be tough this year -- both because of inflation and supply/demand challenges.

Historically Thanksgiving week the fares are higher. Higher than Christmas. We will go to Cabo anyway as we will go earlier and come home later. Unfortunately the rest of our kids and grandkids have work and school and this was the only week that worked out for them. Bad new they won’t go. Good news I’ll save about $17,000.00.

I see that the fares are pretty high for newly released dates. Do we expect the fares to come back down?
My Nov Hawaii fares weren't bad. I used points for one half so I don't remember the cash cost, but I do know that my outbound flight SAN - KOA was $138 and since we have the companion fare that was about it for the two of us. Our return flight was 13,000 points.

What are the location where you are seeing higher prices? i.e . places to put lower on my shopping list ;)

I am used to $100 for non-stop hour long flights, it is $141 for afternoon flights. It is also giving an error when I tried to apply credits from previous bookings. It means I will have to call. Argh.

We are heading to Aruba for Christmas and were on the site the morning (started looking at 7:00 am) the day the flights were released and they did not release any wanna get away or wanna get away plus flight, only the anytime and business flight. I guess they are looking for what the market can bear.

Jet fuel and gas prices are increasing, and that is why airfares are higher. It's a real shame because it's going to hurt a certain segment of people who will have to curtail travel because they just cannot afford it.

I've seen fares come down later, usually through some kind of sale or promotion that SW is having. I booked flights for our daughter to come visit last year at Christmas. I used miles. Every time I would see SW announce a sale I'd go in and check her flights. I was able to get quite a few miles returned to my account. Same thing happened on her trip from San Jose to Maui in March. Booked the flights, then the prices/miles dropped. Again, I got a lot returned to my account.

2020 and 2021 were great years to fly as Covid kept most folks home especially from Mexico. This year different animal. I think I’ll give it a couple of months to settle down. I keep thinking can the airfare get any higher, but ya it can lol.

Off topic but the GREAT news IS I picked up 2 more condos today with the AC weeks I go from Interval for making exchanges. Only needed studios so that worked out. Studio 259.00 for the week at a gold crown resort on Casa Dorado (Melia) Medano Beach 300 yards from Cabo Villas where I have the other 4 condos. No kitchens but pretty sure twenty-somethings won’t be cooking. Booking websites say over 400.00 per nite.
