Our daughter is relocating to a job in Nashville in April. I am going to surprise her for her birthday and I booked the Wyndham Resort in Nashville for the last week in August. She does not know much about the city except to go for the job interview and find an apartment. Her fiance knows we are doing this. Is there anything specifically we should do while there? I was wondering if we need to get tickets for anything ahead of time. I can tell my daughters fiance to plan to doing something fun with us while we are there. She will be off for the three day weekend so it will give us Friday - Monday together. Thanks

I spent one night in Nashville twice. Great times.

Not really sure what she should do.

In late August I would see Vanderbilt play. Especially if the game is against a SEC Powerhouse. You would have to check the schedule to see if there is a game that week.

Spending the night on Broadway was great both times.

Been a couple years since there but don't think things have changed a lot!

Of course, do the GOO! Get tickets early!

General Jackson is fun.

Something different is Sunday church service at Cowboy Church.

Wildhorse saloon is nice evening.

Resort had an informal meal and local entertainment one night.

Old Ryman tour is so-so!

Bus tour of stars home was enjoyable.

Museum down from GOO was interesting!

Watch out for sales weasels, they are cheap and aggressive.

Added: Corvette assembly factory in Bowling Green is great. An hour + drive!

I absolutely LOVE Nashville!! My 2 daughters and I are going again in April, as we did last year. I have also been with my husband. The Wyndham is very nice - they have a lot of activities/tours planned. Also at the Bridgestone Arena they have a lot of info, and something like a City Pass - where you buy the pass and pick which places to visit on your own.

My husband and I stayed at the Wyndham - the Elvis show was wonderful, the Redneck Bus Tour (which I didnt think I would like) was a lot of fun, the Opry was fantastic (we went twice) the General Jackson.... Walk around the Opryland Hotel and the mall next door. The Ryman tour and the Country Music Hall of Fame I enjoyed.

We really liked the Wildhorse Saloon (go upstairs and look around even if they are not serving up there), and the honkytonks on Broadway were great - even in the middle of the afternoon. NOT just country music, my husband doesnt really care much for country - he likes classic rock - and he enjoyed it almost as much as I did.

Few years ago

What we actually enjoyed the most when we were there a few years ago was The Redneck Bus Tour. It really stared out making the week fun.

The Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie bar in Printers Alley was a good place to hear some blues.

Cheapest parking is the high rise and the end near this bar.

I have a friend, Rob Muzak, who plays in clubs downtown. He was recently at Crossroads and was a regular at The Wheel.

Look him up when you are there, he's worth the trip downtown, I look forward to seeing him when he comes back home.

If you appreciate live music I think you'll love the Ryman tour.

Check out The Scene for entertainment type things to do.

Loved Nashville

Here are some of the things we did and would recommend: Grand Ole Opry tour, Ryman visit, Country Music Hall of Fame, walked through Gaylord Opryland Hotel, Lane Motor Museum (cool old cars), Tennessee State Museum (hidden gem, good for rain or hot temps) The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home), The historical town of Franklin, home of the "Battle of Franklin", the Carnton Plantation with the confederate cemetery & other historical homes. Had a good meal at Puckett's Grocery. Lynchburg with a tour of the Jack Daniels distillery (one of the best tours I've ever taken). Had good biscuits at the Loveless Cafe. If we had more time I would have liked to done part of the Natchez Trail.
I bought my postcards at the Hatch Show Print shop; they have moved over the Country Music Hall of Fame area. As you can see we did not spend much time at the unit, which was VERY nice. I plan to return. We were there in early October which was beautiful.

Anne Marie, so glad you started this thread. We are moving my daughter down to Nashville in May. She was accepted into a graduate program at Trevecca Nazarene University. We are scheduling a couple of play days before she starts her program. Thanks everyone for all the great ideas!

I'm there for 10 days in May, any nice nature spots within an hour?

Thanks for all the replies. I will work on the particulars closer to the date. All of these suggestions will be great.

all of the above plus interesting Civil War sites in Franklin and toward Murphysboro and The Hermitage, and more historic sites such as Traveler's Rest. awe stayed two weeks and went to a different place every day.

So we made a quick trip to Nashville last week. Will still be going back in August. We went to Broadway and we were not impressed at all. We went to a bar with a good band, but would not run back. Parking is crazy expensive. I will research all of the other things to do. Definitely want to go to the Grand Old Opry and we were considering a dinner cruise.

Country Music Hall of Fame
Ryman Auditorium (home of the original Grand Ole' Opry)
General Jackson riverboat/dinner cruise
Wild Horse Saloon country music bar

Great posts! I am also planning a trip for next year. Can anyone suggest the perfect month to visit where there is a lot going on but not too hot to enjoy?
Thanks
