What prices makes it worthwhile?

The other thing is why would Marriott buy back points at anywhere near that price when they can by back legacy weeks via ROFR and kill two birds with one stone- they'd be able to fill the trust coffers with inventory and they'd be paying a fraction of their sales price for the point equivalents of the week.

Went back and talked to the rep today. Asking specifically about the "buy back program" and if it was in writing. He back peddled a bit and said there is a line in the contract mentioning Marriott would have a repurchase program but it wasn't set up yet. I asked if it was arofr and he said no it wasn't that. I asked why and he said the trust program is only a year and a half old and hasn't been set up yet but the president of the company has told them what it would be. I said thanks and walked out. At that point I think he knew he lost me.

I'll find an annual or eoy resale and be happy because as enticing as it is it's not worth putting up 25k or more to vacation.

As it is I'm at the MOC right now on someone elses exchange for 6 nights in a studio for 560 (eBay) and if you're flexible redweek and tug have plenty of rentals.

What the rental market needs is a site like daves dvc site where owners can sell and pool points

My thoughts exactly.

Ha! That is such a hilarious comment.... LOL.

You gotta love folks who think your part of the establishment when a POSITIVE comment is made about Marriott.

I know, you have been conditioned to be negative, big bad Marriott, they are the root of all evil on the planet.

All kidding aside, Marriott is consistently rated one of the best companies to work for. Good for them because I'm one of their best customers.

You forgot to add "and I'm not only a client..."

Just so you know- for future reference- you are not allowed to rent an exchange week, only an owned week, and the person who rented it to you runs the risk of having II cancel his exchange (which means a risk to the renter).

GregT, another Tugger, has set up a points rental site. You must be a member of the DC though to rent points, although the points owner can make a reservation for you and rent that.

Especially if you want to frequently visit Maui, then buying a resale unit will absolutely give you the best bang for your buck. Glad you found Tug and were not misled by the salesperson; that's the most egregious version of the supposed buy-back program we've heard here to date.

Others can give you advice on pricing for a resale unit, if you post what you're interested in. Make sure to read the stickies at the top of the buying forum for advice and lists of sites to look, besides Ebay of course.

Thank you for the advice I've been on here the past couple of years listening in. I've had a tug2 account for a while just never registered the forum side of things I guess.

We own a week at the MOC and I am disturbed that your salesman told you such a big lie. :annoyed: Since you are still there, it may be helpful to all prospects if you ask the same question to a sales manager. If it were true then this would be a terrific deal but get it in writing by as high in management you can go. I doubt this is true. The sales manager has the duty to have the salesman stop lying to people who believe him and then lose everything when they have to sell all of the sudden.

Buying a re-sale unit is a much better bet if you want to go to Maui often. It is Paradise.

Are the whales still there?

Agree with iconnections.

erikatcuse: We will be arriving at Maui Ocean Club soon, and I anticipate that we will be attending a presentation. Could you share the name of your salesman so that I can be sure to avoid him? (Feel free to send me a private message if you don't want to post the name here.)

Here's another option to consider. You can buy from Marriott a platinum resale week with relatively low maintenance fees (compared to trust points) that yields high Exchange points. For example, a platinum Mountainside week exchanges for 5350 points and has a MF of $1011=.19 a point. Marriott's resale weeks are more expensive than on the open market, but some of the high-yield, platinum weeks are not that much above open market prices.

To enroll a Marriott resale week into the Destination Club Program, you also have to purchase 2500 Trust Points from Marriott at the going rate ($9.30/point). If you can travel off season, as we do, you can get as many as five weeks of vacation a year out of the combination of 2500 Trust Points and 5,000+ Exchange points. As pointed out in earlier posts, it depends on your needs and desires when it comes to vacationing. We found this to be the best value for our situation.

Anyone up for doing some math?
