MVC Points
We are new MVC points owners and would like to add 4000-5000 points to our total. Where is the best place to purchase on the secondary market? If we add the points do they stay separate when it comes to dues/fees? Any other information would be appreciated, websites, FAQ files, etc. Thank you!

Welcome. Look at the TUG Marketplace and redweek.com. Also look at ROFR.net for recent right of first refusal activity by Marriott.

The points you buy resale with be included in your account, but you need to pay the required fees to Marriott to make them fully functional. It’s still much better than buying directly from them.

I've bought from reputable sellers on eBay without any issues. Note that you'll likely be looking at over $3/point to pass ROFR, then another $3/point to "enroll" in the Abound system.

I've purchased from users tochoa25, buyandselltimesharescom and have been happy with the service. I've heard mixed experiences with Redweek brokers (like sllllllllooooowwwww).

Make sure the points you buy have the same anniversary date as the points you own. Simpler that way.

Compare the numbers but you may be advantaged to buy a very usable and rentable resale timeshare first. You could then buy some points later with an enrollment of the owned week. There are advantages to owned weeks including lock-off options with Interval, lower maintenance fees, and it is often easier to get reservations. Points are flexible but getting good reservations from points is hard even for Chairman's Club members.

We own both points and weeks but I favor the weeks for our purposes.

If you don't already know, you can rent Club points from another owner for around the cost of maint fees. So if it is just time you are after and aren't chasing status then that is a very viable approach.

Thank you for the insight! I am excited to learn more as we go!

That is good to be reminded, I just have to keep learning more as we go.

If you do end up purchasing more points I recommend that you buy calendar year points. In my opinion it is far easier to remember usage tied to a calendar year rather than something which expires during one of the other eleven months......

I hope you have considered what you can get with say 5,000 points - that's 1 summer week at Newport Coast. The 5,000 points will cost you $30,000 to $35,000 in the resale market and have about $4,000 in annual maintenance fees.

As an alternative, you could purchase 1 Newport Coast Platinum resale week for $10,000 and have about $1,800 in annual maintenance fees.

With a little insight into what you want to do with your timeshares, lots of people here could help you tailor a great reasonably priced portfolio. Please share where you would like to go and whether any of these locations would be recurring.

I will discuss with my wife and I will put together some other questions. Thank you!
