What happens to an II Ongoing Search if I use the unit to book an exchange

Newbie question. I've got an ongoing search placed using part of my MGC lockoff. If I just found an available exchange that I like, can I just book it? Will the fees I paid to the ongoing search be refunded if I do?

If its the ownership that you have the OGS against, then yes you can just book it and the OGS will cancel.
If its another week or set of points that you have but not the search set for, then the OGS will continue as II don't know that you want to switch.

The fees you paid for the ongoing search on your Grand Chateau is the exchange fee, so there will be no refund, you will just complete your transaction to book the week and owe nothing during checkout (unless you add E-Plus, need a bigger unit size or take insurance). There may be an additional cost IF you had an OGS just for Marriott/Vistana resorts and are now booking a standard resort (standard resorts have a higher exchange fee).

So, I added e-plus when I did the OGS, does that mean I can get E-plus with the exchange and not pay for it again? Thanks in advance!

@Fido Chuckwagon are you hoping to E-Plus into a larger unit or different resort? Or is it just 'insurance' in case something comes up and you can't go? If you're hoping to use it for a better exchange, please add your request to this thread and we can all keep an eye out for what you want.

I'm not sure if you have read the posts this year about changes to E-Plus, but you can only use it more than 2 weeks before your reservation date before it expires. We used to be able to E-Plus into a bigger or better unit just days before, but sadly that is no longer possible with the new rules.

Thanks! Yeah, I’m hoping to E-plus into a better unit. We’re aiming for a Disney on-property resort next summer, but I’m thinking I’ll grab a Marriott for now (I see MGV is available the week we want to go in August), and then just stalk for the Disney resorts. Right now I have an OGS for the Disney resorts for that week. I’ll definitely add my info to that thread, thanks for the tip.

MGV is so easy to get in Summer and they seem never run out of supply for every single week on any day you check. I was there last month and it's massive and beautiful! I see no reason to lock in now but hey if you want peace of mind. I booked it on ShortStay Getaway but think it's available on ACs or you could even book 6 days ShortExchange or 2x6 days with one deposit.

I haven't tried ShortStay Exchange. If anyone is trying, are you able to add e-Plus to ShortStay exchange?

From the FAQs at the bottom of any page in your II account via the website: No e-plus for getaways, or Shortstay exchange.
I've not seen DVC come up on Shortstay exchange.
