What happens if you don't check into an exchange or multiple exchanges that you have confirmed?

We have a few weeks in June-early July for one of our favorite resorts, exchanges through RCI. I don't want the points back that we used to book them, as I have this many points available in RCI to use in the future:

That huge number of points is just ONE account.

I don't want to add the points protection because it would just be an extra expense. We paid $299 exchange fee. That money is lost. gone forever. Adding points protection and getting back points that I won't use anyway seems like a waste of money.

I planned to use the weeks, Rick refuses to go, so my sister and I are talking about going, just the two of us, which could be fun, but I haven't traveled without Rick for the last 20 years. I don't know if I want to do that, even if my sister is far more independent than I am.

My next step is to ask my other family members if they want to go.

Go with your sister and have a fun girls trip! You will be fine - you will be going to a familiar place.
I am sure leaning toward going with my sister. We could have fun, we both cook and could enjoy meals together. Being away from Rick that long could be tough for me. She would be fine away from her husband. She lived apart from him a lot longer than that.

Offered the weeks to the kiddos. No one is willing to go at this time.

Rick is just stubborn. :) Just saying.

I don't think anything bad would happen if you don't check in, but I would certainly offer it to friends / family if you're really not going to go. Have them cover the guest certificate fee and resort fees when they check in and there you go.

I know when I ended up having to skip a hotel night I'd booked and my plans changed so I didn't go to it - I lost the money but no one cared on their end.

Go with your sister. If you don't want to be gone for a full week just plan for a few days. After a few days, or a week apart, maybe next time Rick won't be so stubborn about going. ;)

If the volcano is still active in June, that could be kind of a fun sight to see.

I just checked airfare, and it's super cheap to go on Delta.

Volcano? Must be Hawaii?
Is the Delta flight from DEN to KOA? I'm just curious because I'm looking at flights for a trip to Maui in May and fares are very high!

Definitely go with your sister! I've been to Hawaii several times with 1 or 2 of my sisters. We always have a great time!!

Thinking of inviting our other sister too. I have two bedroom units, but who is going to take the living room sofa sleeper?

Yes, Delta from DEN to KOA around the 20th of June, same price each day. Return flights are not as cheap.

I just don't see us going to a hotel on the coast on the way back. That's what Rick and I usually do. Then we fly home the next day. The overnight flights are awful for me. I cannot sleep on a plane.

I missed that this was for Hawaii. Definitely go for the full week.

We usually fly from Albuquerque and spend two nights in San Francisco coming and going to Maui. This year we flew from Santa Fe, Denver, and then Maui. Steve is saying that maybe we should do that again next year and do the return straight back cutting out the San Francisco stay. It will be a long flight, but heck we're retired we can rest when we get home. Part of the reason to do this is that the SFO to OGG planes are small, even in first class. The plane from DEN to OGG is one of the larger planes with layflat seats. This in on United.

As to who would take the fold out. Are either of the beds king beds? I could share a bed with my sister (or daughter) if it were a king. :D Or you could trade off sleeping on the couch.

Well, I don't see us sharing a bed. My sister and I shared a bed when we were much younger, I would stay with her when she lived in Kansas. Now we are more set in our ways and not as tired. We are on different sleeping schedules. She goes to bed early, I go to bed late.

I don't know what Hilton Bay Club has for bed sizes, but the youngest of the three would probably be okay with the sleep sofa.

I have two weeks, and they have a one-day overlap. One is at Bay Club, one at Hilton Kings'land.

I have two weeks one at Bay Club, one at Hilton Kings'land.

I've exchanged into 2BR units multiple times at Kings' Land, and in every case the beds were a king in the primary bedroom and 2 doubles in the second.

So for that week anyway there would be 3 "real" beds.

I have travelled alone all the time. I am currently planning a solo trip to Scotland.

There is also the Distressed forums if you don't want to use them and can't find family or friends to use them.

It always seemed like it'd be pretty lonely to travel alone. I know it's become a thing, but I've always been hesitant.

You will make friends with the people you encounter. I have gone alone to timeshares within a drivable distance several times. One allows pets so my dog comes too. I enjoy being alone for a while.
Cindy, maybe Rick wants down time, since you travel a lot!

He thinks we are gone too much from home. The thing is, and he knows this, I have a lot of trading power to use in RCI. We are giving away lots of points, so we are not stuck with even more in RCI. I am trying to get it down to a more manageable number. We pay MF's on these points. To not use them is wasteful.

I can only extend these millions of Wyndham points so long before I lose them completely. RCI doesn't have an option to extend them endlessly as they do in weeks. How nice that would be, to be able to extend them for years.

Well - it does seem like you might be getting close to the living in timeshares from your listed trips in your signature :p

I always thought there was a limit on extensions - I didn't know RCI let you do that with weeks - this only having Corporate RCI accounts does limit my knowledge a little bit. Then again, I don't so far have much use for RCI as exchanges so maybe isn't impacting me that much.

There isn't a cost to cancel other than losing your exchange fee and points, right?
If you can't find a use for them, couldn't you just cancel at some point so someone else could enjoy the week(s)?

I DMd you about the Gift of Vacation program by RCI/Wyndham

Yes, with weeks you can combine endlessly. RCI gets a lot of money for combines and extensions. It's quite a money maker for them.

I wasted a lot of money doing that
Me too. I have so many combines I have done over the years, and the thing is, if you combine to one big bunch of points, you can only place one request, so I had 137 points and was able to place one request.

But you can request several different options on your one request, at least you can with Weeks. For example, I have an OGS for Maui for Feb/March 2026 and on the same request I have NYC for October 2026.
