What do you pay a Driver in Acapulco?

We will be there in two weeks and have the same question. Any tips would be most helpful.

Please some advice?

I keep checking back but no advice. We've never hired a driver for a day and have no idea what the costs associated would be and how much to tip. How much the cab would be from the airport to the hotel. Where is the best place to find a decent driver to hire for the week, etc. I really would appreciate anyone's time devoted to some assistance. Thank you.

We have never hired a driver to take us around Acapulco. Would anyone kindly provide me with some guidelines. Thank you.

They will tell you how much they will charge & then negotiate! :) 15 to 20% tip if you are happy with the ride. Ask at your hotel desk.

Thanks Philemer for your response.
I still would like some guidelines. I know you start from where they ask and negotiate down but how far down? I don’t want to be insulting on the other hand; I don’t want to pay more than I should. This is why I hate shopping for a car. What I think might be a good deal someone more knowledgeable gets it for hundreds or thousands less.
Again, I want to be fair, just don’t want to be taken advantage of either.

I'll be in Acapulco on Feb. 10th. I searched www.tripadvisor.com for information on taxis and fares. Lots of information available. Search Acapulco forums. I have arranged my airport/hotel transfer with an English speaking taxi/tour guide by the name of Sebastian. He was highly recommended and is charging us $22 US for 4 people from the airport to the Grand Mayan. He has also offered us a city tour for $90 for 4, which lasts 5-6 hours depending on what we want to see or do. His e-mail address is: eskp_rsh@hotmail.com. He will give you a quote and also send information about taxi rates and restaurants. I got a response in less than a day. I also e-mailed 2 other drivers, and all were within the same price range, give or take $5. Hope this is the information you were looking for.

While in Acapulco last April, we used Ismael Silva E-mail Address
ismael_silva1772@yahoo.com
. He was fantastic. He has a 4 door Nissan and also a Suburban - both air conditioned. Email him for prices. His replies to email are very prompt. He is very friendly, speaks excellent english, and is dependable. Also, for our day tour of Acapulco, he had another couple who wanted to take it. He confirmed with us that it was o.k. as we had booked first, used his suburban and lowered the price for everyone. Also, when we went to Walmart and dinner at Linda Vista, he had other passengers and again lowered all prices. By the end of our stay, we felt we had made a friend. If you do decide to use Ismael tell him Sylvia and Dave say hi.

Not much negotiating, but let's talk $$$

Thanks to all for the feedback and referrals! It seems as if there isn't a whole lot of negotiating needed. It seems as if everyone feels the costs associated with events is reasonable out of the gate.
