Ultimately we want to be able to go to a 2 bedroom at King's Land in the summer when we choose. That would probably be about every other year with another destination or two on off years.

From realtor sites it looks like I would need about $30k to buy that outright in resale. Maybe in two years I could swing that. It beats the $75k they quoted us at the sales presentation. They REALLY tried to scare us off with the threats of ROFR out there. Have to take our chances on that.

However, buying 7000 points in Orlando is much more doable in the immediate future. Looks like I would need $12k. So I am tempted to just get our foot in the door and start trying out some different places like Orlando, Valdoro, or Whistler.

Does it make more sense to just wait and save up for what we long term want OR should we get what we can and then purchase additional points? Do we do that on the resale market or through HGVC? Does one strategy cost more in the end than the other?

A Kings' Land 2 bedroom is 10,500 to 14,400 for a week in platinum season. Judging by the availability right now, you might buy your points elsewhere and use them for shorter stays at KL, or borrow (no fee) from next year's points to book a full week or more at KL. You will also have access to Open Season at KL, which offers a 7 night 2 bedroom right now for $880.00. Open season can be used to extend a planned stay as well.

That would both get your foot in the door and get you to Kings' Land at least every other year for your preferred vacation.

One way to lower the resale price is to purchase 7000pts annual, say at the Flamingo (No ROFR). You borrow forward one year to increase you buying power to 14,000 pts and get a 2 bdrm in the summer at Kings Land.

For the years you have no points, you have the open seasons to pay cash for rooms. As an observation, it seems like Las Vegas and Florida HGVC always have plenty of openings. I got a 2bdrm at the HGVC Las Vegas Convention 30 days out with no problem (Flamingo had opens but very sporadic). $100-$120 per night. With the economy the way it is, it seems like there has been a lot openings in Kings Land and Waikoloa. However at HHV, don't even try to wait for open season. Plan 9 mths out and use points.

Hope this helps,
DEROS
