What are your favorite lunch restaurants?

Try Bogarts for the Early Bird Special

Bogarts is a fine dining restaurant, with a Casa Blanca theme. We went for the early bird special last time in town (I think it was from 5-6) and when we asked what the special was we were told that everything (except for wine) on the menu was 1/2 price! A tremendous deal, great food and a memorable evening.

Favorites in PV

In the Romantic Zone:
Cafe de Olla-always great mexican food and fresh fish. I love the red snapper
mojo de ajo (garlic). They grill it outside on street (Basilo Badillo)
Cafe Bohemio-great soups and interesting items. Shrimp in bacon is
El Encanto- on Naranjo and Serdan - lovely inside - A wonderful experience -
get the banana leaf wrapped mahi mahi with coconut/banana sauce. Also
split the Garbage Salad with your dinner.:cheer:
El Brujo - on Naranjo one block north of Basilio Badillo - Great shrimp with
onions and bacon in foil.
La Palapa - on Los Muertos Beach - $$$ but romantic. Ask for a table on the
sand and arrive just b4 sunset.

In El Centro:
Barcelona Tapas - climb 70 (small) steps for a great view of the city and
excellent tapas (small dishes). Fun to share.

For dinner, we love Hector's by the Sheraton (on the beach). Not exactly cheap, but his Hector's shrimp is to die for. No credit cards here. It's not fancy here, but the food and the beachfront view make up for it.
We also love Oscars which is by the River, actually near the River Cafe. Great ambience and we think great prices, and yes, they take credit cards.

Epoca

Right on the beach downtown. Might be in the romantic zone, I can't remember exactly. Everything was delicious and your toes are practially in the water. Go there for a sunset dinner!

Restaurants in Vallarta

Unfortunately, Bogarts is closed permanently, as of a couple of weeks ago. Try Trio (downtown), Daquiri Dick (southside), Spaggio (downtown), Ztai (downtown) - all very upscale and yummy. In the marina area, Portabello.

Our favorites
Downtown
Cafe De Olla
Roberto's
La Dolce Vita
El Dorado (On the Beach)

In Nuevo Vallarta
El Pescatore (Near the Paradise Village Mall on the marina)
Las Almendritos
La Laguna

What's an "average" price range for a good lunch at a decent restaurant in downtown PV? $6-$10? $8-$12? Without drinks & tip.

Phil

My guess would be $10 to $12 US but you could spend more or less. Our alcohol bill usually runs more than the food.

When did lunch in MX become more expensive than here in Idaho? Decent rest. lunches run $6-$9 here. :(

How much for a beer or margarita?

I normally like a fish fillet, shrimp or carne asada for lunch so I may spend more than some, I dont eat sandwiches or tacos. I guess pricing isn't all that much different than in the states. A beer in a bar could run anywhere from $ 1 to $ 4 depending on where you are. A margarita from $ 3.00 to $ 10.00 depending on where you are. Happy hour helps keep the bar bill down some. Hot Dogs at the Westin were about $ 8.00 the last time we were there. Although at Victors in the Marina most entrees were reasonable $ 6 mas o menos.

Yes, I've read enough to stay away from the hotel restaurants unless you're really desperate (too tired to walk more than a few hundred yards). :) And the drinks by the pool-whoa!!!!

You've been given great restaurant choices so far. Two more I would add are Barcelona Tapas and El Palomar de las Gonzalez, both with great food and views. We don't eat lunch out so I cannot comment on locations or prices.
We leave Saturday for 2 wonderful weeks!:D

Restuarants in NV and PV

If you are in Nuevo Vallarta you should try Mariscos Tinos. It is on the South entrance to NV on the way in. We have also ordered delivery from a taco stand called Tacon De Marlin in Las Juntas which is just outside NV. They deliver to all the resorts in NV and for between 20 and 60 pesos they have some great tacos that can feed two. Their phone number is 322-290-1540

In PV our favs are El Arrayan which is on Allende and Agave Grill on Morelos.

BTW Tacos de Marlin has 2 other stand one near the aorport and one in Centro that delivers in the downtown area.

Here are a few more Taco Stands that have inexpensive clean food if you are brave enough to try them.
