Sounds like you went to a sales meeting... If their lips are moving they must be lying!
Yeah what is it with the status thing? About the only thing it gives you is a bit of an inferiority complex.

You get to pay a few extra dollars in club dues?

We're Chairman's Club and I haven't seen any value to room assignments from that...I've seen way more from owning multiple weeks at Cypress Harbour when we stay there for a month every March.

The biggest benefit for us was during Covid years and being able to bank our points for 2 years.
Other than that, although there is no official benefit for room assignments, this may be a factor to some extent at some resorts.
We have never had a bad room assignment, but perhaps that is just down to luck (or charm haha)
We have also sometimes had a Welcome card as Chairman’s Club owner with a bottle of wine, perhaps a plate of fruit or cheese…, although definitely less so recently.

We’ve always had good room assignments. I sort of assume being chairman’s level has a little to do with it. However there are so many variables it’s hard to say how much. Owners of a resort staying in their time should have priority over anyone who isn’t a deeded owner at that resort IMHO, but I don’t know how Marriott feels about it.
I wouldn’t buy up to chairman’s level based on the thought you’ll always get a premium view. While we’ve had good luck, I don’t always count on it. It’s not written anywhere and it’s up to whomever is in charge of unit placement, so you just never know.

Even if that was true, is it worth paying $50K now so that maybe you can get the nicest oceanside view among the oceanside rooms on your 1-2 annual trips?

And, as Vistana "5-Star Elites" found out the hard way, these benefits can go POOF overnight. No refunds on your developer purchase though if that happens to Chairman....

(I miss my December 31 banking privilege!)

At legacy weeks resorts MVC level functions as a tie breaker…but nothing more. An actual owner has higher priority than a chairman staying on points and a multi week owner using their weeks for a consecutive/concurrent stay higher still. At least this is true according to the room assignment folk at Waiohai, MOC, and KBC.

And now that people can check in on any day for stays of any length the villa assignment folk are more concerned with the solving the jigsaw puzzle of reservations than meeting villa requests. But if you are staying Saturday to Saturday Chairman status should keep you out of the worst villas.

In points only resorts Chairman will get you more. But again, solving the puzzle of varying length stays starting on different days takes priority.

Whatever priority there is, only relates to unit placement, within the view type that you book.
For example, if you book a garden view, you won't get an oceanfront view, unless they're having to move you for some reason.
Its also really variable by resort and brand as well as the reservation system you use.
Eg some on Hilton Head rotate unit placement priority, irrespective of status. Some resorts are so heavily used by owners on their weeks reservations that status for club points stays is worthless for placement priority.
Some resorts have Ocean view units that have a view of shrubbery, some mountain view units have a good view of the ocean.
The general rule is that if view from the unit matters a lot to you buy a fixed unit week and use it. Most everything else is "subject too .."

I like having enough points to get on a number of wait lists to get what I want in high demand periods. A good percentage of them have come through for us over the years. Not necessarily a unique benefit for being Chairman Benefit level.
