We are headed to Hilton Head Island next month. It will be our first time in Georgia or South Carolina. (We are flying into Savannah.) Everyone is asking what we are going to do there and we don't know what to tell them. In case this is our only time to be there, what are the things to do and see that we don't want to miss. Thanks.

Bike ride and enjoy all the great trails and truly beautiful scenery.

Walk on the beach. Tour timeshares.

Sit on the beach and admire the ocean.

I took my grandkids to HHI a couple of years ago. It was in the spring and a little cool for the water. We did go out to the beach every day.
We went to the HH Lighthouse. They have some shops and few places to eat. We went to Savanah for the day. We rode bikes and they rode horses one day.

Its a pretty laid back place to visit.

Hi, we'll also be in HH next month. Are you renting a car for the week? Here is what we like to do...

Day trip to Savannah- park at the lot at the visitor's center and pay to take the trolly tour. You learn a great deal about the city, can depart the trolly for lunch/shopping/etc, and return to it. The tours give not only historical information, but pop culture information, such as where movie scenes were filmed.

Day trip to Charleston- take a tour of the city in one of the horse or mule drawn carriages. This is another great way to get an overall view of the city and a brief history lesson. Don't miss Rainbow Row and the waterfront.

HH- we stay in Sea Pines and love to take advantage of all of the biking trails. We literally bike about 20-25 miles per day while we are there. Go to the top of the HH lighthouse and take in the view, walk the beach, relax. We also explored the Stony Baynard Ruins, biked out to the Salty Dog, and explored the Canal Trail. If you are into birding, take binoculars. The variety is amazing. We also went to the stables in Sea Pines and went for a trail ride. There is also a weekly hayride.

We have a little one (he just turned 2, enough said), so we don't eat out much while visiting. We did manage to go to Wild Wings Cafe last time we were there, and if you like wings and a good beer, it was a good stop. Definitely not fine dining though.

I hope that gives you some ideas. Tennis and golf are also available.

KevJan, are you bringing children or will your group be adults only? Where on HHI are you staying? We like the SeaPines Forest Reserve which is a huge natural area which was set aside when SeaPines was planned. It is a nature preserve where you can walk trails, take a boat ride on a small lake, picnic, fish, watch wildlife, etc. Search for shark's teeth: Dig through the sands at Barrier Island Beach for fossilized shark's teeth. With luck you can find enough to make some jewelry. Golf is big on the island if you are a golfer. There are many boat rides you can take, or kayaks to rent or shops to spend your $$ in, fine restuarants to eat in and tours to take depending on your interests. You will love it. We live about 13 miles away and we are going in March and April for a week just because we love the area. Enjoy!

We go to HHI every other year. Don't forget a sunrise walk on the beach. Also, take a couple of flashlights and walk after sunset. You can see really interesting crabs and critters. There are several places to rent waverunners which my teens love, or kayak the inlet. Harbortown is fun to walk around. There are fireworks in Shelter Cove every tuesday night in the summer, not sure about when you will be there. There are a lot of great putt-putt places. The bike trails are never ending. Check with the front desk about some plantations to tour. Now I'm homesick! Can't wait until July!!!

Many years ago my husband and I went on a wonderful horseback ride on some beautiful trails. I can't remember the name of the company but it should not be too hard to find.

If you like jazz or Motown, The Jazz Corner in Wexford Village is a must. Plan on the entire evening, dinner and music. Deas Guyz play on Sunday nights and are FANTASTIC!!!!

Lawton Stables is the place located in Sea Pines Plantation.

Zodiac dolphin cruise near The Salty Dog in Sea Pines or one of the cruises from Shelter Cove. Schooner Welcome is 3hrs if it is still there.

Ditto on Sticky Fingers. If you join there club online you get a free coupon for an appetizer, We got the wings. It is the best BBQ.

The island is beautiful. Remember to get your bearings in the daytime as there are no light signs.

Here is the online version of the dining guide-www.hhidining.com and here http://www.hhisleinfo.com/first_time_visitors.htm

In Wexford Plaza Hugo's is very nice and they have early bird specials-pecan crusted chicken is wonderful. Jazz Corner is in the same plaza on William Hilton Pkwy-the main drag.

For lunch-Truffles in Sea Pines, Frankie Bones in Main St Village,Redfish on Palmetto Rd.

Bonefish and Carrabas are open at 4pm. Delicious mussells in garlic oil appetizer at Carrabas.

Stacks for breakfast, reasonable,lg portions on Wm Hilton Pkwy.

Bullfrog sunscreen is super protection.

Such good memories

I would ditto most as we have done so much of what you have all posted about.

By far, the biking in Sea Pines is the best!!! I would definitely do it. Rent bikes for the week and ride on!! It is such easy riding.

We are hoping to take the family back at the end of August just before school starts. We like to stay at the Marriott Grande Ocean.

100th post

While I am hear and getting ready to do some bills, I'll post my 100th post. I feel real delighted to have made it this far.
