We are going to Ko Olina April 26-May 3. Can anyone tell me whether hump back whales frequent the area during this time? Would a whale watching tour be worth the $$ this late in the season?

Thanks

We has no problem seeing whales in Maui a few years ago the first week of May. We saw both a mom and a baby do partial breaches including some other whales. Was an amazing show. Great time to visit Hawaii being nice and quite with all the kids in school. It was mostly older folk and people like us that had a baby on the way (Us), little kids or no kids. Have fun...

Thank you! I see that you own at MOC. In spite of the pool being closed, we are going to the MOC May 3-10 immediately after Ko Olina April 26-May 3. This will be our first visit to MOC.

Can you tell me how the units there compare to the Ko Olina, Waiohai and Kauai Beach Club? We have stayed at each of those (we own at Ko Olina) and are wondering which ones the MOC would be most comparable to. I realize that the MOC is a converted hotel (we are staying in the older units), but I hear it is very nice. Any thoughts you could share would be appreciated. We also realize it has only a limited kitchen but are hoping there are barbecue pits where we can grill.

Thanks!

The MOC units in the older section will not compare to KoOlina. I cannot say about the other resorts. I can tell you that there are very nice stainless steel BBQ grilles at MOC. We found them very nice and we used them frequently during our 2007 trip. We will be at MOC again in June 2009 and also will make our first visit to Kauai Beach Club at that time also. Enjoy your trip!!

The original Section of MOC where we own is a converted Hotel so think of a one bedroom as two adjacent rooms connected together with one side with a bathroom and king bed and other side with another bathroom, a kitchenette (micro, small fridge, sink and some appliances) a dining table and living room with Pull out couch (Queen). The nice thing about it being a converted hotel is the 2 full baths and the two balconies. We love it there and almost traded into the new section the first week of May before we realized that the pool was closed. With 3 boys under 3 that was not going to work.

As far as resort similarites...MOC 1 bedrooms in the original section are VERY similar to Kauai Beach Club. We have yet to stay at Ko Olina and Waiohai.

The whale watch we took on our last trip in May was with the Pacific Whale Foundation out of Lahaina. Highly recommended.

Enjoy your trip...Nate
