The Sheraton is fairly new, but it has small rooms, because it is a remodeled hotel. It's in a great area, (Poipu) but it's across the street and behind the Sheraton Kauai Hotel.

The Westin Princeville is one of Westin's newest resorts and they are full-size condos. Beautiful property in Princeville, Kauai, up on a bluff, overlooking the ocean.

Some people will prefer one, others will prefer the other one.

It really depends where you plan to spend your time and what time of year. If you spend most, or all, of your time on the north shore and down to Kapaa, then Westin Princeville is a better location. If you prefer to spend your time on the south side in Poipu and over to the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, then the Sheraton is best. If you are going in the winter months you will experience a lot more rain in Princeville than Poipu.

For our last trip to Kauai, we decided to spend three nights at the Sheraton and four nights at the Westin. That way we were able to experience both areas and not spend as much time on the road.

While the Sheraton may be fairly new to the Vistana system, it isn't really new new. It is converted hotel property So the resort has been around for a while. I am not exactly sure when the actual buildings that the timeshares are in were built but the Sheraton was originally built in 1968.

It's new as a timeshare, and it's been completely renovated - so it looks new. And yes, I said it was a converted hotel.

For a first time Kauai visitor, I think the Sheraton wins hands down for location. The Princeville area is better for a quiet vacation where you don't mind the wind and rain that comes with staying on the north shore (in our experience, year-round....but certainly much worst in the winter months). We love the Westin Princeville, but there is a reason it seems to almost ALWAYS be available for Staroptions trades and often in II - it's just not as desirable an area to stay for Kauai for most.
