Westin Lagunamara - still in my 5 day window to cancel

Westin Lagunamara Cancun
I purchased last week- I was on my second trip there via their last ditch offer to come back. I really like the resort but having a hard time that nothing is available to review in my 5 day window. I see my options only convert to 1492 MVC points which does not appear to be much at all. I paid $16k also given 135k bonus points to use in Westin/Sheraton but honestly only about 12 resort options for that.
Reading on this forum - sounds like I should rescind. Is there a protocol letter? I have the address to send to certified. I will send to MX and US address but it does not state any specific verbiage I need to use. Also I only paid 3% as they credited a down payment and I was paying upfront over 60 days which seems odd now that I think about it.( I have the funds to do that) If anyone here has thoughts on good/bad please chime in - I’m just leary of not be able to review anything. Also kicking myself that I didn’t talk to more owners while there….i did not think I would agree to buy! They got with unlimited interval (thinking that is a lie now) and the bonus points - which are not useful imho since there are limitations.

Absolutely you should rescind. You need to read through your contract. The letter just needs to be simple indicating you wish to cancel. Be sure to provide a contract or other identification number from the contract and everyone who signed the contract needs to sign the rescission letter.

When you mail it to the address in Mexico, use USPS Registered Mail International. The postal system in Mexico is not as reliable as USPS. To the US address, in addition to sending USPS Certified, it can also be a good idea to mail a regular USPS First Class letter (just a stamp) and add a Certificate of Mailing. This is very cheap. About $3 total and will be faster delivery than either Registered Mail or Certified Mail. Do it in addition to the others as there is no tracking.

Rescind Immediately and follow what Dioxide stated. Save huge amounts--only buy RESALE.

Another problem with what they sold you is that is is likely Westin Aventuras points and not actually a week at the Westin Lagunamar. While they can be used to make reservations at Westin Lagunamar, the inventory isn't the best and a lot of the units available are Studio units. If you are interested in going to the Westin Lagunamar more years than not, then look at a resale Lagunamar week. These are plentiful and cheap compared to buying direct. If you want better access to the Vistana program, then consider a resale Westin Kierland Villas Platinum Plus week. This will come with a lot more StarOptions than what you just bought for less than you just paid. Start reading up in the forums and asking more questions. The stickies can be helpful, but they are kinda out of date.

I see 2 maybe 3 options for cancelling- retract, early cancellation right, notice of intent yo cancel with a termination fee. Fairly certain I am the “retract” but I worry that if not followed to the “T” I am out of luck

Rescind while you still can!

Just be sure your letter indicates you are exercising your right to cancel under the notice of intent to cancel clause. Or something along those lines.

I put in ChatGPT in case anyone else wants a standard format for Lagunamara rescind. I will send to both addresses certified or register mail/return receipt and in an email. Thank you so much for responses and keeping this forum active and user friendly for so long!

Subject: Notice of Rescission – Adventura Vacation Ownership Agreement

Dear Document Administration Department,

We, xxxx, hereby exercise our contractual and statutory right to cancel (rescind) the Adventura Vacation Ownership Agreement executed on xxx.

Our account number is xxxx.

This notice is being sent within the five (5) business-day rescission period as specified in Clause XVIII – Consumer’s Cancellation Right of the Agreement.

Please accept this letter as our formal notice to terminate the contract in full and request confirmation of cancellation and refund of any deposit or payment made, as required under the Agreement.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. Please confirm receipt of this rescission notice via email reply to [your email address].

This works too. Nothing formal is required. It just need to contain certain information as you posted. Make sure that everyone who signed the original agreement signs the cancellation.
Also keep in mind they may not email you that the received the cancellation request. You may get a call though, but the intent of that will be to convince you not to cancel. You are not under any obligation to talk to them so I would not take that call.

There is no specific verbiage to put in a rescission letter. Just plain English that you do not wish to go forward with the purchase of xxxxx contract dated 10/xx/2025, and signed by you and whomever else signed the contract. Keep a copy, and send it USPS Registered.

Welcome to TUG

Jim

Congrats on finding TUG in time. Too many do not, or they are to late to rescind.
