Going to Lagunamar for the first time, been to Cancun a few times but over 20 years ago. Any recommendations on good outdoor view and good food near by or within in a short drive? Any other tips? Most of the threads are 3+ years old.

Cenacola, Fish Fritanga, Burger Corner all good food, within walking distance of the resort

Natura is a 5 minute bus ride. It is next to Surfin Burrito. Very casual. We go for breakfast. Fresh made smoothies. Vegetarian menu ask.

Thank You for responding. Is it easy to take a taxi to these places?

You can walk across the street to La Isla shopping area with restaurants, stores and shops etc. Most restaurants are open air and can be warm in hot weather.

Our top choices:
Steak - Cambalache, Navios
Italian - Cenacola, Lorenzellos
Fish - Fish Fritanga
Indian - Elephanta, Kebab India
Sushi - Ryoshi
Taqueria - La Taqueria
Brunch - Hugo De Limon ( Authentic MX breakfast better than the Westin buffet imo)

PS:
1- Some of these places offer 10% off or welcome drinks for Westin guests.
2- Tipping 10% is super generous for MX
3- Use Uber which is 50% or less than the taxi prices.

Use the money you save to buy more drinks 😆

We loved tacos at Tacos Villanos - walking distance from Lagunamar.

If you venture away from Zona Hotelera towards the north, Chila y Quil had good chilaquiles.

We very much like La Dolce Vita. It's accessible by bus, but wife needs a taxi now. Peter's (nearby) is also quite nice.
La Habichuela is also a long-time favorite...a bit trickier to get to. Friday night at La Parque de las Palapas is quite interesting.
Xkat-ik (Mayan) is also quite pleasant...and open-air.
All of these are less pricey than the big restaurantes in la zona hotelera.

Good list. Add the Thai restaurant at the mall. Have the concierge book a hut on the water for Sunset.

Check out La Isla Shopping Village, it's got a nice waterfront area and some tasty restaurants. For a short drive, head to Puerto Morelos, a charming little fishing village with beautiful beaches and some local eateries.

Those waterfront restaurants are apparently gone. I don't know the status now, but they were said to be moving to other parts of the shopping mall with high end restaurants set to be moving in to the spaces they vacated.

Oh, really? I had no idea, thanks for letting me know, though.

I contacted the Westin and this is what the Concierge recommendations:

The issue with most of those nice restaurantes, especially the Grupo Anderson ones, is that they refuse to publish their prices until you get to the restaurant. You will then find that the prices in the Zona Hotelera are quite high. It's significantly cheaper to take a bus downtown to dine equally well or better at places like La Dolce Vita, Peter's, or La Habichuela.

It's also good for getting the adrenalin flowing as we once discovered when taking the bus and it was stopped and 'raided' by armed police obviously looking for someone (and thankfully it wasn't me :giggle:)

It's also exciting to watch the driver's maneuvers, especially on one of the buses with a heavily cracked, almost shattered windshield. We also once had a guitarist on board an almost empty bus who serenaded us on the way to our destination.

Any suggestions where to get groceries that is close?
You can walk to Soriana, which I think is satisfactory. I think Chedraui is nicer, and you can get there on the bus or take a taxi. We usually do our initial shopping at Soriana (tell them before they ring you up if you want it delivered) and then I'll take the bus up to Chedraui after a few days to get a few things.

This last time, we tried using the Uber Eats app and ordering from Chedraui (last month), but I don't think we'll use it again. Many of the items we selected were out of stock, and we had to choose replacement items, which were often more expensive. I'd rather just go to the store myself and select from what is actually available. Having said that, I understand why people like the app.

I used the Uber (previously Cornershop) on our last trip and ordered from Chedraui. I first tried looking at Soriana, but they didn't have much even though I knew they probably had it in the store. There was only one item I had to substitute from Chedraui. I would probably use it again to avoid the couple hours spend dealing with getting groceries.
