I have had access to the MVC as a result of being a Westin Flex owner. I have converted to Club Points for a couple of years now but don't really have access to the MVC web site other than going through Vistana (Westin) portal. Are our club points equivalent to the MVC points sold by the developer at a sales pitch? The sales guy at the presentation today tried to sell us an additional 1000 Club Points saying that this would make us real MVC owners. What are the basic differences in coming in from Westin vs 'native' points? Also - could I pick up 1000 Club Points from the secondary market to achieve the same thing the salesman was promoting to us?

From a reservations standpoint, in Abound there is no real difference between Club points elected via your current ownership and Club Points that are part of the MVC trust. As for resale vs developer-purchased Club Points, they are identical in every way one you have paid MVC the $3/point ($3,000 minimum) junk fee on a resale purchase.

There is no magic inventory that is opened up when you own MVC Trust Points. Your elected Club Points book the same inventory as owned points. The only difference is that elected points are not eligible to thereafter turn into BonVoy points. Thus, no loss there. Do not fall for the misleading sales pitch that you need to buy 1000 points to "gain access". It is complete BS. And, for those who have unfortunately fallen for that misleading pitch, they basically need to elect Club Points every year for their enrolled VOI, because 1000 points on its own barely gets you anything except Palm Springs in July or mud season somewhere.
