looking for a resort near universal and see availability.
Is this a nice resort
How would the two bedroom arrangement work for three little boys (3, 6, 9) a 15 year old girl, two adult women and are pools and facilities nice for kids

Have you read TUG’s Resort Reviews Forum on this Resort? A resort can be very nice if you can avoid their sales presentation .

There are so many nice resorts In Orlando to choice from IMHO.

No we have not stay at this resort.

Good luck, just do your homework.

Yes I have been trying to read all the reviews. Just got computer fixed. Of course two or three more things went wrong

I am getting disgusted with the reviews.
Westgate Lakes has several short ones by owners giving it a 9.5 and saying very little, one even copied the resort description and used it for their review. You quickly get into really old reviews

If you go to TripAdvisor they give it a one or a five
I looked another resort, it got five out of ten on tug

I am using II accommodation cert and limited to what is available

Star island has a three bedroom but reviews say it is not really a bedroom

Need something closer to universal

Are any Marriott or Sheraton Resorts listed? Also Grand Beach & Cypress Point Resorts by Diamond are pretty good. Blue Green at Cypress Pointe is nice. Westgate Resorts are not bad if you donot do a sale presentation.

There is a resort onsite on Disney for veterans, DOD employees and retired veterans.

No none of those are showing with accommodation certificate

I have used the AC’s multiple times to stay in Orlando. Normally Westgate’s are the best ones that show with the ACs .

Theses are not Hyatt’s, Marriott’s, or HGVC’s. But for less than $300 for the week they are not bad. This resort upgraded me last time to a room 1 bedroom larger for free at check in.

The 3 bedroom Star Island is not bad; I have stayed there before. Nice pools. The third bedroom is like a studio unit. I think that unit would be best for your group. One of our first trades ever was to a Westgate (I think it was Lakes,) we had a two-bedroom loft unit that was HUUUUUGE but badly needed updating. Tons of activities, which might be good if you're not doing parks every day. As a savvy TUGger, I think either would be good. Again, both are nice resorts, not quite up to the level of the Elite chains, but I would say at a level like Wyndham or Worldmark.

My daughter will be at a convention two of the days, which is why a girlfriend is also coming along to help with the boys

Here are the layouts and unit information for a three bedroom deluxe, a two bedroom deluxe and a two bedroom lock off at Star Island. I think they could make any of them work. We've stayed there and like the resort.

Star island was gone when we checked again, they would have worked

Were you looking on Wyndham or RCI? Keep looking it might come back. If you can stay up look on RCI on Sunday morning (Saturday night) at 2am when the website reopens.

Used II accommodation certificate, thanks

We stayed at the westgate Lake in August. The resort is big and has many building. I bought a platinum Escape week in 1 bedroom. As II exchanger and getaway purchaser, I think they put us at building far away from the main building with the main pool and activities are located. I was able to find another entry and exit from the resort near my building at Turkey Lane.
There are lot of activities Amat this resort but you need to either buy the amenity pass ( not cheap, I can’t remember the price since we spent all our days at Disney) or do a presentation to get the amenity card for free.
Living room and bedroom furnitures and furnish are fine but the kitchen pots are not good quality and few in numbers.
It is not Marriott, Sheraton or Hyatt quality but this resort is doable if the price is good.

I didn’t realize you needed to pay extra for amenities

We stayed there a number of years ago for a Universal visit. It was perfectly located for that. We had teenagers old enough to visit the parks alone, so it was a short drive to drop them off and pick them up. I honestly don't recall too much about the resort, but I may have written a review at the time.

I own at Westgate Vacation Villas. I have always liked Westgate resorts and I have been to most of them and some more than once. I have Westgate Lakes during spring break. The condos have more square footage than most and they seem to maintain the units well. They get a bad rap and deservedly so because of their sales staff. They are terrible. Unless you can be rude back, then I would either not use the extra things or pay for them. Because Im an owner at WVV then I get any extras at no charge (at least I have in the past). Im very nice to the check in staff. Then when I have to go get my parking pass alias sales staff. They try to get me to do the owners update, yeah right, I tell them no way in hell am I going to waste my vacation time listening to your bs. Then I give them THE LOOK. When my kids go to Florida I will book other resorts, they like Marriott. Orlando has so many resorts, so many choices.

The comments from the above Westgate owner says a lot. I understand this is only one owner opinion out of thousands Westgate owners.

It took courage to tell the truth by this one owner. Thanks for sharing.:thumbup:

We own at Wetgate's Leisure Resort (It was acquired through bankruptcy) We looked at one of their big properties and I was not impressed. It was row after row of towers like a housing project, not a resort.

Thank you for a fair evaluation .

I have not ever stayed at Westgate . I have noticed on ebay sales that the square footage and number of bedrooms for the MF seems like good value .

I do under that Westgate tries to make it difficult for resale owners,
but that an exchange could be good value .

Since we own Vidanta - Mayan Palace - I understand the 2 sides of the coin in question .

My daughter enjoyed the stay there. She arrived late, like eleven pm, on the second day and unplugged the phones and never heard from sale staff. She rated activity staff A+

I am very happy that your daughter enjoyed her stayed at Westgate. You gave her the very best advice as a parent. Unplug the phone.

Westgate must be doing something right because they are still in business and still selling timeshare properties in the United States.

FIRST A DISCLAIMER IS IN ORDER—-I AM A WESTGATE LAKES OWNER. Westgate Lakes on a scale of 0 to 10 has 2 important ratings to keep in mind. For the sales staff, a well deserved 1. FOR ALL THE REST WHICH APPLIES TO THIS RESORT A 10. They really go out of their way to make your stay an enjoyable one. Disregard all former room condition posts as all units have been completely redone. I have been an owner there at the Lakes since 2001. My family and I look forward to our extended stay there year after year. To avoid the sales staff, just disregard their offer to view other units ( a sales pitch) and say NO! The rest will be an enjoyable experience in a fine centrally located resort. I would suggest you make your own decision here. Enjoy it as I do yearly.
