We're at Westgate Lakes this week. I'm curious about the buildings at the end of the resort away from the welcome center. You have all the numbered buildings, then shorter ones that show up on the map but have nothing to say what they are. They are on both sides of the secondary entrance.

I wondered if they were staff housing or rentals. As I was driving out tonight, I saw a handwritten sign advertising 2/2 units at Westgate for $1050 a month hanging on a pole across the road.

Wastegate bought it and tried to shut it down

Those are former individual condos that Wastegate bought to obtain the property where Wastegate Slums - er, Lakes now sits. They couldn't get the ownership of all of them so they moved the owners to one end and closed/tore down the ones they could grab. The abandoned ones closest to the new faux Italian mid-rise towers now being built will eventually also be torn down. Hopefully the bad economy will shutdown Wastegate for good and someone else with some taste will get to develop whats left rather than more future tenement buildings with no parking as Wastegate has built in that space so far.

Thanks for the quick response, John. I missed the first entrance while going around a bus and went through the other entrance for the first time. I noticed that the ones closest to the construction had a lot of stuff sitting around and really wondered.

Parking has been fine in this off-season week, but I can certainly see how it would be a problem in busier times. There couldn't be spots for 25% of the units close by and maybe only 50 - 60% overall. Surely most people get cars here even if they fly in.

The only real bright side to staying here is the distance to Unversal Studios. We've been able to tour in the morning with short lines, come here for lunch, then drop DS14 off alone for afternoon marathons waiting in the lines. The rest of us hang out at the resort and enjoy the air conditioning in the hot afternoons.
