I have somewhat of a dilemma. I will be traveling to Miami area next year and have decided to add our summer vacation on to this trip. I really have no interest in Villas at Doral or Beachplace, based on reviews as well as my own personal preferences.

Although we have stayed at Ocean Pointe in the past, I would be willing to return. Ideally, I would like to exchange into Oceana Palms- not sure what my chances of that are.

I have a a 2 bdrm MLE that I will be using to secure this exchange or reservation. I think I understand the Florida club- though this would be my first time using it. Right now i have week 13 at MLE reserved.

Which is most likely to yield a reservation at either Ocean Pointe or Oceana Palms? Waiting until February (6 mos out) to reserve Ocean Pointe thru Florida Club or, putting in a request via II for either Ocean Pointe or Oceana Palms?

Any thoughts based on your experiences?
Thanks.

Can you put it in a "Request First" request now with II, so that you don't give up your week, and then check on availability with that same week in the Florida Club when that window opens?

If you want a certain dates, I would use FL club with your MLE.
But problem is, you cannot cancel or change your MLE week 13 reservation less than 60 days. So you cannot wait until Feb. to use FL club.
You should change your MLE reservation to summer or fall, then use FL club on Feb.

Both of those solutions would be helpful. Yumdrey, yes, I want a specific date, as I am piggybacking to another trip.

As always- thanks for the suggestions. I will look at making a change to the existing week 13 reservation. Now to see what weeks have good/great trading power at MLE.

II is really the only option. You own plat MLE, but want to go to Ocean Pointe in gold season. You can't do that with the FC.

How about use FL club right now, reserve a March week at OP and lock-off your 2BR into a 1BR and a studio, and deposit 1BR to II and request summer 2BR week? Platinum 1BR should pull gold 2BR and you will get priority because you are exchanging back into OP. You will still have a platinum studio unit for another exchange.
I would try that way.

But in that scenario, what is preventing them from matching me like for like and putting me into a 1 bedroom? I like the idea of locking off, that's not the problem. I just need a 2 bdrm for sure.

You would need to find an instant exchange and couldn't put in a request as they would likely match you to a 1BR unit. Are you enrolled in DC points, you could convert the MLE week to points and use the points to book gold season in Ocean Pointe. Not sure of the point costs but you could come out with a few points as change since you are trading down in seasons?

Oceana Palms does not have lockoffs so if you just put a request in there you would get a two bedroom. I have recently done a review (see TUG section) and gave it a 10. Funtime

I talked to II yesterday and asked about trading a 1 bedroom Grande Vista for a two bedroom Ocean Pointe through the Florida Club and they informed me that Marriott will only match you same for same, so I'd get a 1 bedroom. So I traded on line through II for a two bedroom Ocean Pointe rather than wait till Marriott was available Monday.

Just an update on what I was able to do. I traded my 2 bdrm MLE for 2 bdrm Ocean Pointe (which I suppose wasn't really a huge deal- given it was a platinum week for a gold week). I tried booking the March OP thru the Florida Club (I calledMarriott twice) and there was zero availability. While it wasn't the best use of the week I ended up trading with II, I needed specific dates and I needed a full 2 bedroom in Palm Beach. And while I wanted very much to try out Oceana Palms, and it was in my request, Ocean Pointe is what I received, and I am happy (in this case dates trumped resort choice).

I am not a member of DC, so I probably won't be trying to book Oceana Palms at a later time- as I would have to pay another exchange fee. All is well....

You need to think of the Florida Club as making your home resort reservation, just 6/7 months out instead of 12/13. If you can only reserve a 1BR at your home resort in gold season, that is all you will be able to book at another Florida Club resort. You are not exchanging. There is no exchange company. You are making a reservation through Marriott.

Actually I understand. I made a typo. It was Marriott that I called to try to book the Florida club. Thanks for bringing to my attention.
