It's been a long time since I've posted a unit for rental. We can't use our PVR week this year due to a mismatch with the school holiday break. Most years will work but not this one and it's a fixed week. Which website(s) are best for renting these days?

Does there happen to be an owners Facebook page for the resort you own? There is such a page for the Mexican timeshare I own and there seems to be a lot of activity between owners for renting to each other on that page.

I don't see an owner facebook page. A few years ago, I used redweek and/or tug for rentals of FL and HI units. I wasn't sure if they were still viable options or if something new replaced those for rentals.

TUG Marketplace is still definitely available.

I use TUG and Redweek.

I've never had anything go unrented

I've had luck with Redweek and once in a while with myresortnetwork.
Good luck.

Which resort is it? My PV timeshare has an owners group on yahoo groups that is mainly for trading. As suggested, post here, and redweek. There's also craigslist and even ebay if it gets close to go time.

If you are wanting to rent Lindo Mar, I would try TUG or Red Week. If it is Ocho, I would try Red Week, TUG or one of the exchange companies - great exchange values!!! Everyone wants to go there!!!

I always forget to look at what resorts are owned :) Lindo Mar is the one with the yahoo group. I think there's a good success rate from listing there, and it's free. A lot of people love the Lindo Mar as well :)

In this case, it's my Ocho week. I didn't consider depositing in II because it's a Mexico week (low exchange power?) but it's a holiday week so that may be beneficial. I was planning to use redweek to rent but wondered if it was still a good option before paying the membership fee.

What is the yahoo group for Lindo Mar? How do I go about joining it? Thanks!

Yahoo Groups: https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/LindoMar/info

If you have trouble with that, just go to 'groups.yahoo.com' and do a search for LindoMar. It's a private group, so you have to request membership - but you'll have full posting abilities once you're accepted.

Mainly posts about people wanting to rent out their weeks and people wanting to rent weeks (usually just Lindo Mar weeks - but hey, you never know who might want your Ocho week!) :) Sometimes gets heated (especially about the upcoming remodel.)

I'd think your Ocho week may be worth renting. ;)
Though I'd love to see it in exchanges--what I'll shoot for some time. I worry that the exchange companies would just skim it off and rent it, though. (See what a skeptic I am?)

I'm apparently a skeptic too because I didn't even consider depositing due to my expectation that exchange power will be artificially low due vs what a great resort it truly is :).

You'd probably get a great (relatively) exchange value, based on it's demand, but I'd sure check it out with the deposit calculator (RCI) before letting it go. Again, I'm sure it probably wouldn't hit the exchange site or even OGS, but we'd see it for rent for mega bucks. You might as well get those bucks yourself (depending on the season of course).

Edited to add: I've had great luck with Redweek for high-demand times and/or resorts. I don't believe I've ever gotten an obvious scammer message in about 10 years, probably because you have to pay to access the site to communicate with owners. Most of my renters come from Redweek, but I get a few from myresortnetwork now & then. I've only had one Redweek owner try to haggle me down on rent--but otherwise I do try to price realistically and just a tiny bit lower than my competition. :)

Renting on Craigslist

I have rented timeshare weeks from owners using Craigslist. I have also rented booked weeks. Most people do not know how to search the whole of the US for CL postings, so posting in multiple cities one at a time works - and wording may have to be changed for the CL system to accept multiple postings. PV is frequented by the West Coast so at least post in LA, SF, Portland and Seattle. Photos help a lot as does an honest description, a location, amenities, nearby "stuff" and the all inclusive (or not) info, view details, fees to pay the resort, transportation available, etc. State that the dates can not be changed (and someone will still ask ...) Then, a phone conversation with your renter including discussion of payment and you have an agreement.
