This is apparently the rainy season- how bad is it? Just afternoon downpours or days and days....?
Thanks
Anita

Hot, humid and downright miserable. When it's not raining it's overcast. I don't recommend it.

One year I spent the last week in June and the first week in July in Puerto Vallarta. The downpours hit in the evening. There were a few spectacular thunder and lightning storms. It was so humid that even with the air conditioning on, the cereal boxes wilted. The heat and humidity are oppressive. However, if you live where that is the norm for summer weather, it might not be a big adjustment. I live where there is basically no summer humidity, so the humidity in Puerto Vallarta in June/July was difficult for me. I would venture out in the a.m. and then again in the evening before the rains set in. It was so hot and humid, I actually welcomed the rain. I agree with the previous poster. If it isn't raining, clouds will be overhead or looming over the mtns waiting for their evening arrival. Would I go again during the same timeframe?--only if the accommodations and airfare were a tremendous bargain. The only reason I went on this particular trip was a free RT airfare that would have expired.

PV in summer

Thanks loads! I canceled that hold.

June/July in PV

Oh gosh, how discouraging your replys have been. My daughter, son-in-law and 2 children are so excited about a trip to the Club Velas in Mexico on June 24th this year. They have spent a fortune on airline tickets, all-inclusive fees and gosh knows what else they will be charged for! The expense is an overload and if the weather is unbearable ~ oh, my heart is breaking over this. I guess all we can do is pray that the rains hold off till July. :(

Gnipgnop, here's a link to PV weather/climate. There are charts and tables that show average number of rainy days per month, and high and low temps. Hopefully they will get lucky, but I wouldn't count on it. Better to be prepared. From my personal experience it was like living in a sauna for 7 days. The only time I was comfortable was when I was in the pool!

Our 1st trip to PV was the end of May and beginning of June so I can say I've been there in June. It was warm and it was getting humid, but we still had a great time. Most of the people I talked to said when it rains it is usually in the evening and is often accompanied with lightning in the mountains.
If we had any activities planned, we did them in the morning. Afternoons were spent by the pool, then we usually went downtown in the evening when it was more comfortable.
Your daughters family can and probably will have a great time. PV is a great place to visit, even if it is humid. The comfort level will depend on what people are used to. Since we are from Sacramento area, we are used to being hot and we just have to get used to the humidity.
Someone from the Pacific Northwest may have serious problems making the adjustment, but my sisiter who lives near Seattle loves the change in climate. Go figure!!!
I wouldn't panic. I'm sure they can make the best out of a summer month in PV.

I agree with the previous poster. Their enjoyment of Puerto Vallarta in the summer will totally depend on how well they deal with heat and humidity. Personally, I welcomed the rain because somehow it seemed like a relief. One summer I went to Orlando in July. It was very hot and humid, and it rained so hard that the carpet got wet in the poorly designed timeshare unit. To me, summer weather in Puerto Vallarta is not unlike summer weather in Orlando. Perhaps part of my problem was all of my previous visits to Puerto Vallarta had been in December. The weather in June and July is vastly different.

Thanks Everyone

Since they have school age children they have to vacation in the summer months. We have given them this week as a gift and that is why I wanted it to be very special for them. I will give them all your encouraging words about doing things early in the morning and spending time at the pool in the hot afternoons. Again I thank you all very much.

Now they are asking me about the Swimming with Dolphins tour and what it would cost. I told them I would ask my "tugger buddies" and hopfully I will be able to give them some information as to where to go in PV and how much it would cost. Anyone know of any discount coupons??

las caletas- great day trip

I highly recommend a day trip to Las Caletas!!! It was wonderful. Thre were lots of families on our trip there!!!!

I'll take P.V. any time. As for swimming with dolphins, I believe it's 65.00. Book on line at Vallarta Adventures and save 10%. Vallarta Adventures also has a great snorkle tour to Islas Marietas and the canopy tour. I say, go and have a great time.

They will absolutely LOVE the swim with
the Dolphins. It's a once-in-a-lifetime
experience! Only drawback is the onlookers
can't get close enough th take pictures
(maybe a real high power zoom??) but
that's their point. They take lots of pictures
and a group video to sell to you after. And
you WILL want it so plan on it. I think the
8by10's were $20 but don't remember what
the video was. But the close up pictures
were great! Have fun!

Vallarta Adventures also had a "trained" sea lion at Las Caletas. I was diving and the sea lion would come up to divers at the trainers command and give them kisses. My wife was snorkeling and we got a great picture of her receiving a kiss from the sea lion. The Vallarta Adventures trip to the Marietas Islands is a lot of fun.

PV any time!

Well, I must be a hearty soul!

I've been even in July, deep into the month. Yes, it's humid, but come on... you're in Pto Vallarta! I prefer the summer over the spring, as the pools are too cold to enjoy. Don't have them dwell on the humidity. There are so many other things to think positive about. And if they can only go in summer, perhaps their mindset is different than others that can go any time. I'm sure they are going to enjoy it. PV is an awesome destination.

Out of the 7 times I've been to PV (and only 1 of those was in spring...the rest in the summer), I've experienced only 1 entire day of rain, and it was the day we were leaving.

Your grandchildren will have a great time no matter what!

To handle the humidity, try to wear 100% cotton, no polyester blends. Makes it so much more pleasant.

June is a great month. July through Sept are more humid. During the summer months it is very much like Hilton Head or Florida during the summer. While hotter and more humid, those places are still very popular in the summer. We personally love summer in the Vallarta area. Expect the rains to occur at night. Maz

Everyone: Thank you so much for all your kindness and encouraging words. I guess it all will turn out fine.....many thanks again for all your valuable information. Gnipgnop:whoopie:

We were in PV last summer in mid to late June. It was our first trip to Mexico. We stayed at Rancho Banderas, which is actually a bit north of PV, just south of the Four Seasons in Nuevo Vallarta. From what I understand, this area gests a TEENY bit less rain than PV during the rainy months. I, too, was a bit concerned about having our whole trip rained out, but it turned out great. We only had rain one day, when we took the local bus into PV. The rest of our trip was sunny and warm, and I don't recall any unbearable humidity whatsoever. Our kids, ages 7 & 10 that summer, had a blast boogie boarding in the warm ocean and playing in the pool. We did Vallarta Adventures Swim with Dolphins -- it was well worth it. We also took a small boat out of Nuevo Vallarta to snorkel out at the Marrietas Islands and do a bit of fishing.
Gnip Gnop, don't worry, your family will have a great time!! (What a nice gift. :) ) There's lots of families in PVthat time of year, and our kids made so many friends and had a blast. Besides, kids are much more oblivious to warm humid weather -- as long as there's a great pool to play in, and a bunch of other kids to hang out with, they're in heaven!

We spent two glorious weeks in Puerto Vallarta last year mid July into August... Yes, the weather was hot and very humid but we had a great time regardless. When I travel to a beach destination I like it HOT! I'm not one of those people who thinks perfect weather is only at 75 degrees.. I personally hate swimming in even 80 degree weather, it's just too cold for me... besides in Mexico, even the best resorts don't heat their pools... for me, pool and beach weather is 95 and up...

Here's some advice.. Don't sign up for any long day tours unless it's on or in water (boating, snorkeling, scuba).. If not doing tours, tell your daughter to adjust her schedule as follows:

Rise early.. get in some activities between 7 a.m. and 11 (go into town, catch some sights etc.). Do some planned indoor activities available at your resort from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (arts and crafts, games etc..) Have a nice long lunch and settle in for a siesta until 3:30... Head to the beach or pool until 7 p.m. and watch the sunset. I think this is the best time of day to be poolside or on the beach... your kids will also be spared the sunburn! Head back in to get cleaned up for dinner (this is also around the time the rain showers come down) By 8:30 you can venture out again and do some sightseeing, shopping, dining and strolling... Eat dinner around 9 or 10 and head back to the resort for some night time swimming!

I realize this schedule may seem difficult with young children but if you get them acclaimed from Day 1, they'll do just fine! We did it with our 9 year olds and they loved staying up late (it was like New Year's Eve every night) Remember you're on vacation and it's OK to deviate from the norm!

Your family will have a great time! :)

Diane and iiderman: What a great response! Thank you so much. I am going to print out your replys and share them with my daughter. Now I have a "new frame of mind" and much relieved of worry.

I too love it to be hot when at the beach but on the other hand I hate it to rain when on vacation, as most of us do. Going all the way to Mexico from Pennsylvania and getting soaked with rain and baked alive seemed very unfavorable. But now knowing how to deal with this is a whole new story. Again, I thank you and I know they will be looking forward to a great vacation. Gnipgnop:wave:

Well I'm going next Saturday 21st June for two weeks - so if it's awful I'll be miserable with you!

The last time we went at this time of year was a few years ago now, but from I remember it was hot and humid but not unbearable (and I'm not that good with humidity) but the thunderstorms and rain fell mostly in the evening and at night. I also remember one wash-out day and that was during a day trip to Caletas, but mostly it was fine.

The forecasts don't seem to good but I'm determined to look forward to it anyway!

Have a great time!

well the rainy season has already begun and with a bang, mind you. We had many days of rain, rain , rain. ( this was a combination of a storm and rainy season). The typical rainy season is lots and lots of rain, thunder and lightening at night or late afternoon, sometimes cloudy in am with left over rain, early morning, then clearing and sun, but all of Mexico this year has had non-typical weather...Jan/Feb. were exceptionally cold etc...anyway it will be humid, yes that is a given....it will rain, also a given but hopefully at night...you have AC at Velas....pools, great food , entertainment etc. etc...

Personally I live in a drier , higher elevation in Mexico but when I go to beach I want hot....and sun....and no rain, but I do go in July, am scheduled this July as well, and yes it will rain at times, but PV is fascinating no matter the weather, swimming with dolphins is awesome, and the trip to Las Caletas, well if weather calm, then okay, otherwise I might skip that or only do in daytime.

I am hoping for all of us that the typical rainy season prevails...today it was sunny till early eve....no rain as yet...

Just have your relatives think it will rain and go for it, let them know will be humid and go with that....they will surely have a great time anyway......

I have never found it to be unbearable.....especially when you can go in A/C, go swimming, etc. Some days might be tough to shop with humidity but Pv is great they will love it, and if it rains well they may experience some things they have never such as tremendous lightning shows, thunder, street flooding with happy mexican children playing in rain.....do not worry they will have fun....Now mind you I hate rainy season, but who can control the weather, so just tell them to enjoy!!!
