Weather in July

I just booked the last weeks of July, 2009, at a resort in Honolulu. I still have time to cancel with no penalty. I have no reason to cancel, but thought I'd just check with folks on this board about weather. We just came back from a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which is the same latitude as Hawaii, and we know July is the rainy season there. Are we likely to be okay weather-wise with Hawaii in July? Opinions?

The weather in Hawaii is generally the same all year long.

Weather.com says
JULY: Avg of 88 with 1/2 inch of rain
Dec: Avg 82 with 2.8 inch rain

So July will be just a little warmer and a little drier.

July/August are the hottest and driest part of the year in Hawaii. The rainy season is Nov. - March. You will be fine! Be aware that frequent sprinkles that blow through quickly are completely normal summer weather in Hawaii.

Thanks! I will track back later on this board to ask about further details of the trip like cost of boating or flying to other islands for a day trip, etc. but it's more than a year away, so lots of time.

I would get these two books ASAP to get you started on your research-

Oahu Revealed

Driving and Discovering Oahu

Thanks Denise! I will get those books ASAP! My two boys will be 9 and 13 years old when we travel to Hawaii, so I'm keen to add this destination to the list of places we visit while they're still young enough to be interested in traveling with their dad. I feel we're in the "zone" well beyond the toddler years now where we can become more adventurous (than the ten years we went each year to Orlando!). Two years ago we went to the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico and visited Mayan ruins, which was really great. After Hawaii I want to take them to England and then high on the list are Egypt and Africa. Expensive trips, those latter ones, but I don't want to get to old age and look back and realize I never did these things with my kids.

My son is 21 and my daughter 17 and we've been going places since they were born. As long as we keep going to places like Hawaii, the Caribbean, Europe, etc., I don't think they'll ever want to stop traveling with us. It is a chore to make them stay behind when Mom and Dad want to go on a romantic adventure trip of their own. :D

I've found timesharing and traveling together has been something that has drawn the family closer together and will have very long lasting effects on the relationship with our children.

Having done both PVR and Hawaii during the summer months...I promise you Hawaii is nothing like PVR in the summer!! Hawaii is delightful and we go EOY in the summer.

We love Puerto Vallarta too but, that is our 'spring break' vacation, we won't ever do PVR in the summer again
