We're headed to Cancun in January. While it's extremely warmer there than here in Virginia, I'm preparing for highs near 80 and lows in the 60's. Water temps are the coolest in January.

I wanted to go ahead and purchase our time at one or two of these parks, but have hesitated. I'm concerned about being chilled while participating in all the water activities.

We once went to the Bahamas during the first week of April. We found it uncomfortable while snorkeling. Should I anticipate that January may be uncomfortable for swimming and participating in water-based activities at these parks (XEL-HA and XPLOR)?

Would you wait on ticket purchases?

The water in the Sea is warm. The water in the cenotes and rivers is cool enough to wear a light wet suit because of the shade but if it is really warm out or if your in the sun you really wouldn't need the wet suit. Most people just wear swim suits. A shorty ws is plenty if you do need a ws, imo. Fresh water is about 75 - 77 degrees. Sea water is about 84 degrees.

I would wait to see if its raining or blowing hard before I bought tickets.

you can purchase directly via the web while in MX if you want to by-pass the hotel/concierge once the weather forecast becomes clear.

We went to Xcaret in January and it was excellent. So much to see and do. The night show was spectacular. If you go, make sure to do the underground river, not at all scary with a rope that you can use to pull yourself along. It is a unique experience, and the water temperature was fine. Snorkeling off their beach was fun as well. To me, it's like a Mexican version of Disney.
