The sound & style & mood of that tune are so fitting to the time & place that lots of listeners just naturally assume it's an authentic Austrian folksong, not realizing for 1 minute that it's an original Rodgers & Hammerstein Broadway show tune written specially for The Sound Of Music.

A number of years ago we made a trip to Europe and it included a visit to the house they used. They also had the gazebo there. I will always remember that portion of our trip.

Our mom played a particular radio station each and every morning while we ate a hot breakfast as kids before going off to school during the 1960's,
and at that time the movie "Sound of Music" had just come out, and that radio station played a LOT of Sound of Music songs ad infinitum and
ad nauseum, which we grew to hate.
That said, later in life we all admitted to each other during "weak" moments of reminiscing and confession, LOL, that the music was not only classic,
but quite beautiful,
evoking much emotion that we never gave due credit for. Later too, as we all learned the real history of the Von Trapp family, we began to appreciate them, and appreciate Julie Andrews as the very able and brilliant singer who made such an indelible mark on us all as a result of her role in the amazing movie Sound of Music.
Now as our lives are moving on, both the vistas and the songs in the movie will forever remain a huge part of us.
