I understand Washington state driver's licenses don't meet TSA specs for air travel. There has been ongoing discussion about when/if other identification was going to be required to pass TSA security checks. I have a domestic flight this coming weekend, and I'm wondering if I need to take my passport or other ID with me, or if my WA driver's license will still do the trick. Anyone know?

Dave

We have the same issue in NH but they just passed a law saying that NH licenses will be compliant by 2020, which may work if we get an extension from TSA. Glad to have a passport, however.

Looks like you are fine with just a Driver's License until at least January 2018.

Many years ago we lived in Bremerton for several years when DH was in the Navy. What a beautiful state!

When we went through the Minneapolis airport 2 weeks ago they had signs saying you'd need an enhanced driver’s license or a passport after 1/2018. MN is still arguing about it, so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't get an extension.

Dave, I don't think the 'enhanced ID' rule is in effect yet. But if it was me, I'd tuck my passport in my carry-on just in case.

Glad you mentioned this as we had it heard... incredible

We've been traveling with our passports for domestic flights for quite a few years. Since there are still folks who don't realize New Mexico is part of the U.S............

Thanks, everyone. I'll probably just take the passport, so I'll be ready. It's not like I'm going to New Mexico, or anything... ;)

same here.

Another reason why I like using my passport as ID when I travel is that passports don't have your home address. I would prefer not to share my address with strangers.

Similar, but unrelated question..... Anyone know if a Passport CARD functions as 'enhanced ID' for domestic flights? I just got one and maybe I'm looking for ways to justify it.

Does it have a photo? Chip? No clue since I've never had one.

Cheers

Google is your friend. :)

Looks like the passport card is good for domestic travel.

Similarly, I'm assuming that my Global Entry card will serve the same purpose. Anybody know for sure?
