My wife and I are going to fly out of Washington Dulles airport on Jan 13th and return Jan 20. We will be leaving from the Newark Delaware area and by way of Interstate 95 We would like to know how if some one can give us some directions on how to get to the airport and a decent area we can park in for the week and has free shuttle also can anyone tell me how long it will take from Maryland Delawae line to get there by way on I 95

You will come down I-95 and take the Capitol Beltway west toward VA and Tysons Corner. Just before you get to Tysons Corner, take the Dulles Access Road (Route 267) to the airport. It is a two hour drive minimum from the DE/MD line. A lot depends on traffic. You can park in one of the airport economy lots. There may be some hotels in the area that offer free parking if you spend a night at the hotel. As for off airport parking, I have never used any. I think there is or was one south of the airport off US 50, but it is a ways back to the airport. I would just park in the airport economy lot. It has regular shuttles.

We stayed in the Dullas Marriott and they let you park for a week or two, and have a shuttle to the airport. It was very easy.

Travel time completely depends on what day and what time of day you need to get from Delaware to Dulles. During rush hour it could take three or four hours easy. You should try to avoid the beltway on weekdays from 7am to 9:30 am and 2:30 pm to 7pm. Traveling on Saturday, you should plan on at least two hours.

Parking in the economy lots is $9 per day, covered parking near the terminal is $15 per day. Don't forget that you'll pay for 8 days if you stay Sat to Sat for example. Your cost of staying at a hotel near the airport that offers a free shuttle and free parking will easily exceed the cost for economy parking and will be about the same price as paying for the parking garage.

Now for the real bummer. You are traveling during a time where snow is very probable. I would never park outdoors for a week during this time of year. The last thing you want to do is dig out your car and/or scrape a sheet of ice off the windshield when you get back to Dulles.

I recommend biting the bullet and paying for the parking garage and spending the $120.

I'll second JudyH's choice, the Park & Fly programs at the airport hotels. There is a service through http://www.parksleepfly.com/, they list the hotels by airport and make reservations for a fee or you can call the hotels directly and ask for their Park & Fly rates & availability, that way you get there the night before and use the hotel shuttle to the airport. The savings in parking fees can nearly pay for the room. We think it's a good way to reduce the winter-season-travel-stress, especially for early flights.
