We are trying to remove wallpaper border from a previously painted wall.
Have used a scoring tool to make remover penetrate. Am using "DIF" wallpaper stripper. Paper is coming off with some effort but it is leaving a sticky residue that I'm afraid to paint over. Am not replacing with another border. I even tried "Goo Be Gone" but didn't help. Thanks for any suggestions.

Jim,

Go back and completely SATURATE the area again with DIF. Let soak for 15 to 20 minutes and then use a putty knife or wall paper removal tool to get the rest of the gunk.

Be patient. You may have to saturate a third time in some areas but thw stuff really does work.

Someone told me a mixture of hot water, dish detergent and fabric softener sprayed on after scoring. Agree that removing a boarder is difficult, but I'm thankful it's not the whole wall. Putty scraper is my friend!

I feel for you ! The previous owners of our home wall papered the bathroom and of course it was peeling from the wall due to the condensation in the room. At first I tried the DIF and although it was doing a good job, if I really saturated it well, I became in patient and rented a steamer from Home Depot and the job went much faster. I don't think I ever want to wall paper a room after that experience! :wall:
