As others have recommended, I want to get on a waitlist 18 months in advance.

Question: Do I need to pay my AF in advance in order to clear the waitlist (assuming inventory becomes available)? I have not paid my 2023 fees yet, much less 2024!

If so, should I pay the 2024 fees at the 12-month mark (under the assumption that most inventory clears 6-12 months out)?

I’ve had waitlists clear without prepaying. Most recently I was early into HRPP on the unit I gave up. MF had not been billed yet.

My understanding is the contract you intend to exchange must not have a balance. However, once the MF are billed, my understanding is this can impact waitlist processing. Whether this is “when billed” or “when due” is unclear to me.

I play it safe. As the MF season approaches (now), I prepay any contracts I intend to exchange to avoid a balance while waitlisting (just in case the criterion is “when billed”). I suspect the real criterion is “when due”,i.e. account can’t be delinquent.

Follow-up question: When exactly does the 18-months period begin?

Example: If the week begins July 1, 2024, can I get on the waitlist at midnight on January 1, 2023 or must I wait until January 2?

To follow up with a twist: So I see that the date opens on the same18months before, i.e. May 1 opens on November 1, but the full week doesn't open - only the days that have cleared the 180 mark.

I gather this means I should wait to make a one-week request when the last day of the stay opens, rather than requesting waitlist for each day (which makes no sense)??
