Ok. So I am booked at Waiohai checking in 11/26. According to my reservation it is an oceanview villa. Being a developer purchasing owner at Ko Olina will that hold any weight when requesting building 1 or 8 for this view?

There is a hierarchy Marriott uses in assigning rooms within a view category at the Waiohai. Multi-week Waiohai owners are at the top of this food chain, followed by single week Waiohai owners. Exchangers are lower on the food chain, although being a Marriott owner on a Marriott exchange keeps you from the bottom rungs.

We are single week owners and have never been placed in Hales 1 or 8.

Further, Marriott now has a new incentive: to please its new points owners which it can do by giving them preference in room assignments. At this point this is merely a fear of mine, but time will tell how it plays out.

That said, you should make a room assignment request. Just don't get your hopes too high.

Slim chance as an exchanger. There are very few "good" ocean view rooms at Waiohai, and Hale 1 & 8 are where the owners want to be. Also, Waiohai is all but sold out and still has a high owner occupancy rate (for Hawaii).

My advice is to ask for an interior facing room, that way your sure to get a good view. It may be Hale 2, 4 or 6, but you will be happy.

It might be slim, but when we exchanged in, we were given the location just below the 8 in Hale 8 in the picture. It had an oblique view of the ocean. What we appreciated the most was it was very close to the pools and pool bar and had easy access from the underground garage. What wasn't so good was that the exterior views tend to get inundated with chicken noises throughout the AM. When you tell them what your preferences are, just be non-pushy and tell them you'd appreciate them doing whatever they can do, considering you are a Marriott owner. The rest is up to luck..., and good luck. It's tied for our favorite Marriott location, so be happy in that...

So

So when does one call to make these requests? X weeks before check in or right away?

Hi. I'm checking in the same day. Where did you see on your reservation that you had an ocean view? All I can see is that I have a villa on the II website.

You need to go to this site on Marriott.com and enter the Marriott reservation number and name from your II confirmation certificate (the PDF that you received in an e-mail). The number should begin with an 8 and be 8 digits in length. You will then be able to see what Marriott shows your villa as.

we are going to be making use of the BBQ pits. Maybe we will bump in to you.

They actually have pits? Can you cook your own Kalua pig in it?
