I don't know anyone who has one, but Smart Money liked them; Smart Money column said all the parts for Vizio are manufactured by the major brands (Sony, etc.) and that resulting t.v. is an excellent buy.
Costco is a great place to purchase a tv. I purchased a flat panel Pioneer. This TV had a large section of the display die. After over a year Costco refunded my money with out packing and cords. I then replaced this plasma with a Vizio LCD. Family all prefers this TV over the Pioneer. Six months later I am waiting for a smaller similar Vizio to go on sale for the den.
I also bought a Vizio from Costco. HAve had it almost a year and it has worked great. I find the remote a bit vexing at times - but the picture is beautiful.
Believe it or not (my local Sam's Club mgr thought I was kidding until he read the warranty himself) if the TV needs repair IT MUST BE REPACKAGED AND SHIPPED TO THE NEAREST CERTIFIED REPAIR SHOP/DEALER.
That's all I needed to read and bought a 50" Samsung Plasma TV with 5 year in house warranty.
Has anyone bought the 50" Pioneer plasma? C-net loves it...we are in
the market and wondering if it is worth the premium price. (Although
we can get it mail order a lot cheaper) Which brings up another question,
has anyone ever bought a plasma tv mail order? Any good or bad experiences?

The main problem with buying it "mail order" (usually they deliver these things by motor freight, not mail) is that you have to read the sellers return policy. Usually, the items are not returnable and only covered by the manufacturers warranty. But that's not a hard rule either. For example, crutchfield.com has a liberal 30-day return policy, but amazon.com has a no returns policy on large screen TVs, so you have to check.
If you purchase it locally, there's usually a return policy in case you have problems with it out of the box, you can return it and get another one, or get something else or just get a refund. Either way (locally, or mail order) you have to check the return/refund policy.
