6 May 2023 - Saturday morning in Annapolis Maryland

Our first visit to Annaplis this year started out at the City Dock Visitors Center. We picked up a copy of the 2023 Visit Annapolis Visitors Guide and Map(s).
We walked around and took a few photos of the buildings and boats. Would have liked to spend more time there today.
We plan to visit the area and to tour the historic buildings and gardens alot this summer.
Some of places we plan to visit are: The Annapolis Maritme Museum and Park, Historic London Town and Garden, Hammond-Harwood House Museum.
William Paca House and Garden and The United States Naval Academy Visitors Center and the Museum at Prebble Hall and the Maryland State House.

13 May 2023 - Saturday - Partly Cloudy

Today we visited the Annapolis Maritime Museum located in the former McNasby Oyster Company packing plant at 723 Second Street in the community of Eastport. Admission includes a self-guided exploration of the charming maritime museum and The Buchanan Bay Room Gallery. The Museum was founded in 1990 and is situated on a small waterfront campus at the mouth of Back Creek, overlooking the Chesapeake Bay and is housed in the last surviving historic oyster-packing plant in Annapolis. It’s a 20-minute stroll from Annapolis City Dock across the Spa Creek Bridge. There is a small free parking lot for museum visitors.

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge (also known as the William Preston Lane Jr. Toll/EZ Pass Bridge) The Bay Bridge is part of US Route 50 and US 301
It is a major dual span bridge in the U.S. state of Maryland. Spanning the Chesapeak Bay, it connects the state's rural Eastern shore region with the urban Western Shore, between Stevensville and the capital city of Annapolis. The original span, opened in 1952 and with a length of 4.3 miles (6.9 km), was the world's longest continuous over-water steel structure

Gorgeous drive at sunset- one item crossed off my bucket list…
We were driving from NY to Fl a few years back for a car meet ( Mickey & MINI ) and took the scenic route planned specifically to hit that bridge at twilight. Stunning views. An absolute marvel.

About 10 miles from Annapolis

Historic 1735 Woodlawn House - the oldest Smithsonian building still in its original location
Visit forests, wetlands, marshes and trails along a stretch of protected Chesapeake Bay shoreline.

This tract of land was patented in 1666 by the Shaw family (they called it Shaw's Folly) who held it until the Sellmans family (who called it Sellman's Connection) acquired it in 1727. In 1917 the Kirkpatrick-Howat family (they called it Woodlawn) bought it. In 2020, the Smithsonian rehabilitated Woodlawn and transformed it into a visitor center.

Annapolis, Maryland - Scenic Overlook
September 10, 2024, Tuesday Afternoon

The drive..
We took Maryland Route 2 South, Ritchie Hwy towards Route 50 East, John Hanson Highway to Route 450 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd

First stop the Scenic overlook with beautiful views of the Severn River, and the nearby Maryland's Gold Star Families Memorial Monument`s
a two-sided tribute made of black granite. One side bears the words: Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families
and Relatives who sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom.

The other side tells a story through the four granite panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and Sacrifice. At the center of this tribute, is a silhouette of a saluting service member which represents the Legacy of the Loved Ones who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our Freedom. Together, these features tell each community's unique story based upon the Pillars of the Foundation.

Then we crossed the Naval Academy Bridge over the Severn River and continued to the Navy yard.

We used Gate 8 (Bowyer Road off Route 450) to access the U.S. Naval Academy
We showed our ID, Passport card, and they checked our tag for Handicap Plate.

Cars with handicapped tags or dashboard cards
may enter Gate 8 and 1 during normal visiting hours.

Note: Access to the Academy Grounds is Limited!
Please check the current security restrictions before planning a visit.
All visitors 18 years of age or older must have a valid picture ID.
*The REAL ID Act has now been extended to May 7, 2025

Proceeded straight on Decatur Ave. crossed College Creek til we reached Maryland Ave
We wanted to visit the US Naval Academy Museum however they were closed (Tuesday)

Next stop the US Naval Academy Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center.
We were fortunate to park directly across from the visitor center.
There are three entrances into the building off Boundary Road
with access to restrooms, USNA Gift Shop and an Exhibit area.

Inside the Visitors Center, you can watch a 13-minute film,
The Call to Serve, which repeats every 15 minutes.

Outside we walked around and took pictures of the beautiful waterfront.
We sat and relaxed on a bench and watched the boats on the Harbor.
Afterwards, we had a snack and then drove around Rip Miller Field before leaving
from Gate 1 to check out the William Paca House & Garden on Prince George St.
There are a variety of dining options at the Yard and nearby in Historic Annapolis.

It was a perfect day for an end of summer visit to Annapolis
with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the low 80`s.

The yard is a place of beauty with one of the most
breathtaking waterfront views in all of Annapolis.

The trip home was via Interstate I‑97 which connects Annapolis with
Baltimore/Washington International Airport in Anne Arundel County.

* Note: Interstate 97
I-97is a north-south interstate Highway in the eastern United States. It runs entirely within Anne Arundel County, Maryland
for 17.62 miles from (US 50/US 301) in Parole near Annapolis north to I-695 and I-895B in Brooklyn Park near Baltimore, Md
