Virtual Presentation - MVC Points

I'm currently a MVC points owner at the 'owner' level with 3,500 pts (use year of May to April). I attended the Sales Presentation today and was offered the following:
Current pt rack rate of $17.72, but discounted by 10% to $15.94. They also include a 'credit' of $1,500 which essentially reduced the price per point to $14.94

I'm considered 1,500 MVC points to bring me to the Select Level (with plans to reach Executive in the future) and they would be able to switch my account to January to December usage (starting in '26) Total cost would be $22,410 but included the following bonuses: 313,000 Marriott Bonvoy points and a one-time 1,500 MVC points after 18 months (requiring me to use Marriott Financing for 18 months).

While I know the resale market would be cheaper, the 313k Bonvoy pts are likely worth $2,500 (at .008). I would prefer to get to Executive level now but the costs would be >$50k.

Advice or other ideas to reach Executive level. thanks!!

Resale might be $12,000 cheaper (1,500 x $7) but you rather have Bonvoy points that are worth $2,500? My opinion is that the math doesn't make sense.

The best way to do it is to enroll one or several resale weeks as part of the purchase. It's not something they openly advertise but you always want to attend a presentation with resale weeks in your back pocket.

For example, if you had a resale week that, if it could elect points it would get 3000+ points, you could even get to Executive after buying 1500 points. However, there may be a larger minimum point purchase involved when enrolling resale weeks (others might know).

An even better way to do it (because MFs on points are so high) is to buy a week in Spain or Aruba from Marriott while enrolling resale weeks. Those direct weeks could just be elected as points annually and will often have a better cost/.point nd MF/point than actual Trust points.

But buying points without enrolling a resale week just to get to Select is not worthwhile. Especially because those benefits can disappear anytime, like the Vistana 5-Star Elite folks found out.

@DanCali - thanks for insights and advice. If I purchased a 'week' on the resale market, can that be converted to points automatically or do I need to elect it each year?

You would have to make a purchase to enroll the week.

You cannot use a resale week as points unless it is enrolled in conjunction with a big retail points purchase (I think at least the enrollment points value of the week.)

Well said.

We bought points over the last year from MVC, at a presentation, and simultaneously bought resales (from the same salesperson) that were ~$7.75 and $5.75 per point for a fixed week in Maui and a floating week elsewhere. Fixed week in Maui was our goal, as we reserved our anniversary week, and never have to 'fight' for it. Can elect to turn it in for points any year we'd like. And even better, the maintenance fees are less on the resale weeks that we obtained.

From time to time you may get a cold call from ?corporate? offering to sell resales as long as you also purchase trust points at the same time. I've had that happen a couple of times.

Good luck.

It's more cost effective to first buy the resale on the resale market. Then buy points and enroll the week.

When they enroll a resale week as part of a developer purchase, a "week" can be anything. So obviously buying a high point-value week to minimize the MF/point is deal. Something like a Platinum 52 3BR Grand Chateau or Platinum 52 3BR Frenchman Cove or Platinum 26 Newport Coast are great for that purpose. The upfront cost for these weeks is not cheap (for the resale market) but on a $/point basis it's maybe $3 - $3.5 at most. For example NCV 26 converts to 5300 points and may cost $18-$20k on the resale market.

I own both points and resale weeks and, by far, prefer my resale weeks. They are so much cheaper it's incomparable. The benefits of a different level with MVC are not worth much in my opinion. If it were me I'd buy more resale weeks and I'd buy them patiently. Put in a few offers on Redweek and see what you get. You'd be surprised how cheap some people will go but you have to ask! Good luck!

There are so many timeshares out there, and when someone wants to sell, there are few buyers.
Most timeshares have no or little value, so can be purchased for $1 if the seller realizes what is going on.
